Who and why?

Here is my reply to a question[^]. First it was downvoted and then deleted. This is not the first time it has happened. Can anyone tell me for what reason it happened? Was it legitimate or illegitimate? If someone's status enable him/her to be able to delete the replies, is there a feature that keep track of their activities? Or is it like get enough reward points and you are free to delete any post. No one is watching? Can site administrators tell me why it was deleted and who deleted it?

You won't get an answer in this forum, if you think it was unfair you can raise it in "Site Bugs and Suggestions" though they won't tell you who did this. The system is largely self-policing, you gain the ability to delete when you have enough reputation points, the theory being that if you've been here long enough you know what the standards are. Obviously some people are more tolerant than others. Things are kept anonymous to prevent vendettas where one person has a go at the account of another who has downvoted or deleted stuff etc. The site admins do keep track of what is going on, but for a one-off case they are unlikely to spot anything given the volume of posts here (as I said you can report to site bugs and suggestions). Hope this answers the majority of your questions.

Thanks. I will post it there.

Compensated. We get occasional univoters, normally either someone trolling or someone you've hacked off in some way. There is a joke going round that if you haven't been univoted like this you aren't a regular. On the upside the people who do this are normally either newbies or sockpuppets, so the actual rep damage isn't too high.

Thank you. I was not the point hit (as you say it was a newbie), but why did the choose to down vote the question? Again your answer is the most likely.

Well, looking at previous answers, yours is a copy/paste of a previous answer. So it might have been deleted due to that. No idea though.
At the time I replied to the question no solution was accepted by the OP. It was a simple case of mentioning the correct event that fire at the server side that we do daily(one can easily detect by just going through the code the OP posted). So I simply copied the text from the OP's question and replaced "onclick" with "onserverclick" with a short description of the problem. I think that was enough for the "Hollow Man" to take the action. Reason: we will find out when Chris completes his MindReader module.

Maybe, like I said I have no idea. I'm to tired to test out my newly found mind reading powers. And I agree, the solution was quick and easy. Just stating that a solution posted before yours was identical (except for the umlauts above your 'o' in the onserverclick and the explanation). If I had to venture a guess, I would suspect that whoever deleted yours looked at the one posted before it, said they were the same, and nuked the one posted later in time to prevent someone trying to copy/paste an answer for points. We had a post a few weeks back that pointed out people were actually doing just that in the Q/A forums.

That is my guess too, though I can't be sure. I will say that if I saw an exact copy of an answer posted after one that already existed, I would delete it.
