They're doing a remake of 20.000 Leagues Under The Sea[^] You know, in my opinion - even with todays special effects, I think they're gonna have a pretty hard time topping the old Kirk Douglas / James Mason masterpiece! Just my 2 öre...

I'm not sure that the new version will be worth watching, as I like the original as it was cheesy and the effects were pretty poor

It remains to be seen. I'm not so worried about the SFX affecting the overall quality in a negative way. I'm more worried about them actually casting Brad Pitt as Ned Land. That would be a major bummer. On the other hand: Every time there's a new movie in the making there are rumours that Brad Pitt is to star in it. Prior to "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" there were a lot of rumours that Brad Pitt was being casted as Moriarty, but luckily it turned out that he wasn't. Hope it's the same here...

I am really tired of 3D movies. I didn't check the link but with a Sea Monster battle how can it not be? I mean, instead of focusing on drama and adventure, and gasp, story, lets just have a bunch of scenes with objects coming at the audience.

Need custom software developed? I do custom programming based primarily on MS tools with an emphasis on C# development and consulting. "And they, since they Were not the one dead, turned to their affairs" -- Robert Frost "All users always want Excel" --Ennis Lynch

I agree. 3D is waaaaaaaay overrated. I just get a friggin headache from the glasses, so I'd much rather see the movie in 2D anyway. (AND save myself $5-10)

It took me a long time to realise that the title of the book referred to the length of Nautilus' journey, not the depth it could reach

It's well known that if all the cat videos and porn disappeared from the internet there would be only one site left and it would be called whereareallthecatvideosandporn.com

A league is an hours march. Even if you were off by a factor of 100 in how fast legionaries could march you'd get an absurd value as a depth. :sigh:

Exactly - I believe a league is usually classed as 3 miles, so 60,000 miles under the sea would be some feat!

Are you thinking of the Disney one as the original? There was an earlier version, released in 1916 (The Kirk Douglas version was released in 1954) and two later versions, both released in 1997.

I'm sure that all hard-working Australians are happy that their taxes are being well spent on such things. I mean, just knowing that government officials are spending millions just so they can go to parties with movie people must warm the cockles of their hearts.
