Ok, this kinda tickles but here it is. In 1984, Feb 1st was a Wednesday and so was the 29th of Febuary that same year. The next time this will happen is in Year 2012. What is the mathematical or logical explanation behind this?

X| [/EDIT] I don't know the reason, but does it have something to do with the number of years between 2012 and 1984 being 28? 7 leap years, or 4 (the number of years after which a leap year comes) times the number of days in a week.

Well, Feb 1 and Feb 29 are always on the same day of the week, since they're 28 days apart and 28 is a multiple of 7. Or is that not what you were asking... --Mike-- The Internet is a place where absolutely nothing happens.   -- Strong Bad 1ClickPicGrabber - Grab & organize pictures from your favorite web pages, with 1 click! I was asking that in 1984, Feb 1 and Feb 29 occur on a Wednesday. When is the next time that will occur. By my method, I figured out that it will be Year 2012. Is my solution right ? I know my answer is because I looked it up on the calendar. lol.

You've got a few posts I see. Are you taking a test by any chance, or home work even? Quote from a clever bloke : "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein

There are 7 days in a week and consecutive leap years are on different days of the week. For instance in 1984 leap year was on a Wednesday, in 1988 it was on Monday, and in 1992 it is on Saturday. So every 4 years we would subtract 2 days from the day of the week. 7 is not divisible by 2 so we would have to go through the week sequence twice to make leap year land on Wednesday again, being 7 leap years. Since leap year only happens every 4 years 7*4=28 years which is equal to 2012-1984. "if the golden arches shut shop, where else are the VB people going to get work." - Colin Davies

Nevermind, I figured it out. Leap year occurs every 4 years and Wednesday comes after 7 days of the week. So 7x4=28. 28+1984=2012 But Thanks Anyways.:)

Actually, a leap year comes 4 years, except at the century (every 100 years) except when the century is divisible by 400 (like 2000 was). Therefore, 2000 was a leap year even though it was a century year. 1900 and 2100 will not be leap years. Therefore, you got lucky with your math because it spans a century. :-D Marc Help!
