"ask a question" - rant
-
So what did you ask? Perhaps something about performance? Because the default answer to any question about performance is "Knuth decided that every program must be as slow as possible" (he didn't, but never mind that) followed by a (usually) more polite way of saying "OP is a faggot".
Something about averaging algorithms :-). It´s not my intention to put this on the map to get an answer, just to ask for a little more understanding in future events :-) (for the community, not for myself)

Today I posted a question about a topic, yet an hour later I received "some comments" and the question was deleted. [RANT] I would actually like that the people who gave comments would like to explain: - why it was not a valid question? - Why they make assumptions instead of asking for clarification? - What was wrong in my post to deserve a downvote and/or complete deleting the post? I got one question stating: "not a question anyway". Real helpful. I don´t mind that I do not receive immediate answer, nor that that my question is not well understood, but now I have a bunch of comments in my mailbox that don´t tie together and no clue what I should improve to make my problem more clear. My question was also not against any rule to my knowledge. I got one "answer" which wasn´t even near to what I meant and which, seeing my question and his answer, I´m sorry to say, proved the person didn´t even read the question right. I appreciate all responses, even the ones not immediately helpful, but if my end is wrong I would like a chance to improve before post is deleted. I checked the persons who commented. All with high reputation marks who seem to answer a lot of questions. I also try to help by answering on occasion, but at least I have the curtesy to allow people to improve. I´m sorry but this just sucks X| [END OF RANT] Sorry had to let that go. I didn´t feel the downvotes or delete was deserved, at all ! Did you get something similar lately ?
Take this over to the Sugs and Bugs forum. Ask Chris why this has happened. It sounds as though people are a bit overzealous with their trigger fingers.

As a lot of the trigger happy QA post police don't frequent the lounge, it's unlikely that they'll see this post.

Repost the question! Or email me directly using the below email link and I'll see if I can help you or at least set you in a helpful direction. Oh, and I agree with your rant. You should have been given a chance to improve or revise the question.

You must accept one of two basic premises: Either we are alone in the universe, or we are not alone in the universe. And either way, the implications are staggering.-Wernher von Braun
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.-Albert EinsteinThat is VERY kind of you. But I´ll let it sink a bit before reposting :-)

I agree (as usual) with Pete; report this on "Suggs and Bugs:" if it's a bona fide question, if properly tagged, asked in the right forum, and asked clearly; if it wasn't down-voted by umpteen people, or reported ... then I think the person who deleted the question should have their ability to delete questions ... deleted. yours, Bill
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart, and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms, and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

Take it to the Suggestions and bugs forum as Pete suggested. One of my posts were removed as 'abusive' by some drunk teenager. Chris removed the inappropriate abusive vote and reinstated my message[^] when I reported it.

It might just be me, but the bookmark/delete/flag buttons are very close. I went and looked at a question, and it would be very easy to hit the delete instead of the bookmark or flag buttons. I assume that when you delete it asks for confirmation, but I'm afraid to try it out just in case it does not. That said it seems we have a lot of posts being nuked there as of late.

There is confirmation for deleting a post. I think that whoever is deleting all of these questions is just abusing their privileges.

Hadn't considered that option; would be a dandy feature for the Q&A-forums then? To simply hide that button? As is now, I can see it in Q&A, not in the forums :)

Kid sister :rose: There's no place like Lounge - MeSo I see: one 1, one 3 and two 5. Don't take it to heart - I've raised this before but there seem to be a person / some people who are just down voting anything they don't know how to answer (or possibly can't understand). Not a lot we can do except wait for them to get bored. Just ignore it - it's not as if rep points will buy you any new teddy bears! ;)
