Last night my wife told me she needed another piece of mommy gear[^]. I always encourage her to use online tools to boost her confidence in the scary world of online trading. (Last year she booked a few nights for us in Italy at a hotel that didn't exist, as a result she's quite nervous with online transactions) I recommended that she try to get a bargain from a local auction website. After a few hours she got out-bid and ended up browsing the rest of the site, when she noticed a good deal on an Android tablet. I told her that she can try bidding on it if she wants to, but the odds that she'll get it (for that price anyway) are next to nothing since there are always people that put in last minute bids. And that's exactly what happened, she bid on the tablet and got out-bid within minutes. She then reasoned (to herself) that she will greatly improve her odds on actually getting a tablet if she bid on more than one, so she placed bids on 9 different tablets, somehow enabling the auto-bid option on some of them in the process. ...This morning I had to do an EFT to pay for 7 of those 9 tablets. :wtf: Why does this make me love her more? Because my life would be soooooo boring without her and her quirks! :-O (Besides, who doesn't want 7 foreign brand Android tablets from China?)

I do believe Leslie Neilson had a good use [^]for them. :)

It was broke, so I fixed it.

I almost clicked on that wiki link before I decided to read what the URL said - could have been interesting at work... On a positive note I managed to sell 7 pieces of cardboard(with android tablet pictures glued onto them), to some unsuspecting bidder , at the weekend for a few hundred quid ;P

Funny thing is, I have no idea what brand the tablet is, even after reviewing it's spec I still couldn't tell you. But here's a link to another one of them on auction. clickety[^] (Maybe you can tell me) We're considering taking one each and donating the rest to an orphanage or maybe even keep them around as presents, time and mood will tell. EDIT: It's been decided, we're gonna donate them to the kids at the orphanage, maybe they can give them away as prizes or something.

The styling is very similar to one I bought. So it's very probably TopTech who had backing from Hyundai for a while.

If it's what you think it is, what're the touchscreen and CPU specs? Resistive touchscreens and single core ARM11 and A8 processors blighted the initial generations of ultra-bargain tablets; and I'm curious what, if any, progress has been made in getting them to a less awful state.

Mine has capacitive screen, 1.5GHz dual core. Android 4.04 UI is fantastic. Main grumbles: Charging time > 13 hrs (going from 10% left) manual was in chinese, I managed to get the english pdf from them. Resetting tablet reverted to Chinese. :( So it's a good idea to learn the menus, writing down the way to get locale back to English. It handles pretty much all media formats. Also beware of the apps store, it's notoriously full of apps with hidden extras to spy on your browsing habits/malware. Definitely avoid trying to 'root' the device, as some of the tools claiming to root it, might actually be malware too. I've been hit by them already.
