There were some legal rumblings about advertisers using Apple's UDID to track users for advertising. So, Apple pulled the plug on that capability. However, being the kindhearted company they are, they didn't want to leave all those poor advertisers without the ability to track us like a herd of bison in the wild. Enter a new opt out ID that they can use. I looked under Settings / Privacy but couldn't find it. Turns out that it's hidden under Settings / General / About / Advertising, where you'll find a switch to turn off tracking, cleverly defaulted to "Off" to confuse the weaker members of the herd who give it a quick glance and assume that means tracking is off, when of course you have to flip it to On to disable it. Man, they really buried this one. That plus the reverse wording is the sort of sleazy behavior I'd expect from a lot of folks, but not the almighty self righteous Apple. Caveat Bison.

much like the rest of em, Apple is only self righteous when it applies to OTHER peoples(as in competitors) stuff. just sayin.

Treat stressful situations like a dog, if you can't eat it, play with it or screw it, then just piss on it and walk away. Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow.

Doesn't suprise me, just like the iApp updates that simply list the update as "Enhanced user experience" which really translates to “We've added more intrusive ads to your iApp!”

It was broke, so I fixed it.

Google does the same thing. I used to be able to keep my GPS off and have location sharing off for everything. But now I have to turn on location sharing for all Google Apps in order to be able to use Maps and Nav and remember to turn it back off when I am finished.

That's all? I remember a "bug fix" update that moved a core-feature to the non-free part of a program.

I ran across something similar the other day ratting around Googles settings, I remember wondering why they would bury the setting so deep and default it to Off, I guess I must be a weaker member of the herd. Mind you I will now chase it done and change it!
