Leaving a company

Just keep your integrity and work normal.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

That's the only reason I am struggling so much with this.
Common sense is admitting there is cause and effect and that you can exert some control over what you understand.
Integrity doesn't pay the bills and, in this instance, means your employer is taking the piss out of you because he knows that he can walk all over you.

Don't you getting sick or something, cough and cold may be... or just tell them you forgot to put comments on that last 5000 lines of code, oh and tell them there is a recursion in it :)

I don't think they would understand what that meant, so I would have to endure a meeting about it.

My last day with my current employer is Friday, and while they keep adding stuff to my to do list. I am struggling to stay engaged and productive. Anyone else have this issue? BTW it's not uncommon for them to dump more work on me with the expectation that I will just get it done no matter how many hours it takes (the reason I am leaving). X|

I think it's human nature to have a hard time finding motivation in this situation, all you can do is your best, suffer through the week, try not to burn bridges, try and leave on good terms. Admittedly, this may be easier said than done. I have to agree with ryan31 here, be professional.

They must've thought you were some kind of comedian.

Honestly I'd just tell them to stuff it, and depending on how well they have treated you and how nice they are, I would also do a poor job of the work they keep giving you despite knowing that your leaving.

I live to see you eat that contract, but I hope you leave enough room for my fist because I'm going to ram it into your stomach and break your god-damn spine!
That is a good foundation for a response, but you may want to temper your response somewhat.

Work your standard hours and put in a reasonable effort to make progress. Remember to save some time in the last two days (if you can stretch it out that long) to do a thorough handover to someone else - that way you can leave with a clear conscience!!

simple, straight and honest .. I would say the same .. And this is a common scene for most leaving a company .. I know some people would actually think, that by this way they can actually curb attrition

Get logical .. you would also have enough to do with your release forms/processes .. be wise to spend time on the right things at the right time

You should have a good idea how much work you can do in four days, taking into account any extra things you need to do as part of leaving (e.g. knowledge transfer, admin and form filling, security debriefs etc). If your list gets longer than that, just say 'sorry, there's no way I will get to this this week, best you give it to someone else'.

Why worry? the worst that they can do is fire you, oh wait a minute thats not an instant dissmissable offence, so the worst would be for them to instigate dismissal procedures and you will be gone before they can complete them.

I suggest working through the highest priority items (or maybe just the items you feel like doing), slowly and carefully, commenting/documenting more than usual, for 8.00 hours a day. Nobody (rational) is going to fault you for not getting overwhelming work done when you already quit. You want to make sure your final work is your best. Once you are gone, you become the perfect person for your managers to blame for their own mistakes.
