The phrase "not one bit" or "doesn't matter one bit". I'm an American so bits aren't the same thing here, but I just happened to think about what you other people think bits are. and then, because I'm an adult:

A bit is a small amount of something eg a bit of cheese, a bit of the other etc.

Funnily, I thought of this[^]. The first time a recall hearing it, i was out with one of the Erikas being served by Monika. Rita was the manageress of the bar. I had three very hot ladies dancing around me. It became an in joke that when I walked in to the pub they put this on, a signature tune if you will.

A bit[^] from Wiki; "In the United States, the bit is equal to 1/8th of a dollar or 12.5 cents. In the U.S., the "bit" as a designation for money dates from the colonial period" We used to say it all the time when I was a kid...well during the colonial period. :)

Nah, half a bit is smaller - you just throw away the zero because it doesn't mean anything.

So what you're saying is that "shave and a haircut, two bits" has a completely different meaning to you?

Are there two bits or is it really three? I'm never sure how to count that stuff...

My guess is that most men would object to one of the (two/three - whichever way you count them) being called a bit. I doubt there are too many that are sensitive about the size of the other one(s). Unless they're gone because they got Bob Barker'ed. Then it might be a sore spot.
