It is 12:30 PM and I am still morning grumpy.

My neighbor's elephanting contractor decided it was a great idea to fire up the old jackhammer right beneath my bedroom window at 7:30 this morning. That makes me SoMad. :suss: Here 5 hours later the jackhammer is still going at it and I am contemplating accidentally cutting the cord with my hedge clippers. :^) Personally, I would not start making excessive noise like that until after 9:30 in the morning. Is that just me? Soren Madsen

Shouldn't you be at work instead of lying in your bed complaining on an online forum?
It was broke, so I fixed it.

No it's not just you. I would have at least expected the inconsiderate arse to have asked the day before or something if it would be OK to start making all that noise so early in the morning.

Thank you. And I would naturally have said it was fine. At least I would have known about it and gone to bed before 3 AM. Given how long it is taking them to clear that patio, I can understand their desire to get an early start. This is Southern California and although it is cool today (21°C/70°F), it was very hot a few days ago (33°C/91°C). Still, a heads up would have been nice. Soren Madsen

In my first house, I was woken every morning for about a week by builders chiselling off plaster right outside and below my bedroom window and surrounds, for waterproofing. Was hell.

It's just you... ;P Actually, I prefer not to make excessive noise in the morning myself, as most of my neighbors are rather elderly and frail. But contractors usually start around here about 6 AM, primarily to be able to finish a day's work before workers start dying of heat stroke.

I imagine it just has to be done like that in Arizona. These guys are actually lucky it's so cool today. This reminds of a few years ago I was on a road trip and coming through San Antonio. It was July or August, the heat was just incredible and here are these workers laying down blacktop...Stepping in a pile of hot asphalt and using shovels to spread it around. I was in awe. having worked construction for years in a prior life, I can tell you that most likely what you have down there is your basic grunt who was told by the big boss to get his ass to work, and he couldn't care less what you think as it is his job on the line...

You are right, I should retract my elephant remark from the contractor (and worker) and apply it to my neighbor instead. Like I said earlier, a heads up the day before would have been nice. I think I just lost my hearing, or could it be that they finally finished. :^) After more than 6 hours of noise and vibration, I have this weird feeling of relief. Soren Madsen

Those aren't men; they're machines! :omg: I see our linemen outside in 130°F temperatures, surrounded by concrete, rock and steel in a substation, and wearing long sleeved shirts - I'm in awe of them, and I'm convinced the heat has damaged their brains. I've done it, too, but not day after day like that.

:omg: I don't even run my washer/dryer between 10PM and noon.

Yeah, it would be great not to be unemployed. :sigh: One of the reasons I went to bed so late was because I was going through job postings. Soren Madsen

If you were in the Twin Cities area, my company has a few openings for programmers. We've been looking for a few months.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Relocating is not an option for me at the moment. If it was, I could have pursued opportunities in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other places that have been presented to me by recruiters. Twin Cities seems like it wouldn't be much different than moving back to Denmark. :-D There are jobs here in San Diego and I have interviewed for some of them. The first one was a contract position and they decided to pass because they thought I was too senior for the position. It was good money and right now I wish I could go back and dumb myself down a bit... :sigh: I am still at the top of their pile once they are allowed to hire full-time in the Software Engineering department again. At least you have a good excuse for being grumpy, and there is end in sight. I am grumpy, and been that way for too god damn long (couple of week now?).
