Specs on the SSD? Are you running the swap file from the SSD?

What OS are you running I wonder. I had a Dell 990 with striped dual SSDs at the last place I worked. It was faster than what it replaced but not spectacular like it should have been. We put it down to Suse Linux Enterprise Server not being quite as 'enterprise' as it should be but perhaps it was Dell cutting corners on bus bandwidth or something else.

it's a Samsung 840 Pro 256G. not sure about the swap file, actually. i just cloned my previous C drive onto the SSD and dropped it in. :)

Congrats! I envy you! But that's good envy you know. :laugh: My workmate has also swapped his C drive for a SSD, it has cut boot time for 50%. I don't remember the vendor, I just know it's a 128GB one. I'm planning to purchase a new ultra book this year, I'll of course include a good 256GB SSD for C.

I did that and moved the Temp internet files and my documents to an additional drive.

Interesting, that can't be much different from the 990 I had so it does look like it makes a much bigger difference under Windows. I guess the Linux guys would says that's because Window is so slow on an ordinary HDD and the Windows guys would say that Linux isn't sophisticated enough to take full advantage of the SSD capabilities. Who knows.:~
