I still don't understand why M$ took out DVD playback in Windows 8. So I am now downloading VLC media player to play a Mythbusters DVD I want to watch. Dammit, M$. Don't get me wrong, I like VLC, as it plays pretty much everything under the sun, and it can play regionalized DVDs without having to change the DVD drive's region settings! That is a handy thing to have.

It's Microsoft, they have to remove at least one useful feature on every release.

Didn't Vista take out DVD play back as well? Maybe it is every other version of windows they remove dvd playback...test the waters...see who still finds it useful.

Come to the UK and subscribe to Sky Shite TV. You'll see all MiffBusterz episodes again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again day after day, week after week and sooner or later you'll get the playback loop over and over. Why waste good money on a DVD.

We have a sky+ system in each cabin. On an evening spend countless hours flicking the channels trying to find something a)decent to watch, b) something decent to watch that I haven't watch at least once before c) a film that hasn't been on at the same time every night for the previous (n>7) days It is for this very reason I refuse to have Sky at home.

Actually it was the icon and the colors that were draining the company's coffers.  Then someone in Accounting had a brainwave and... well, to make a long story short, along came the Metro UI.  :-D /ravi

Thank God! I've always liked Vista's UI and Win 7's performance.  Too bad it's not available in the same OS.  But of course, there's always this[^].  :) /ravi

For the same reasons as you wrote, just as soon as Mrs. W gives the nod, I'll happily get rid of ours as well. I can think of better things to waste £30 a month on. Anything that Sky sources from Auntie is always a problem. They have to dump a good 15+ minutes-worth an hour just to clear the decks for adverts.

If there is one thing more dangerous than getting between a bear and her cubs it's getting between my wife and her chocolate.
