Kindle for the PC

Anyone using Kindle on their PC? Thinking of giving it a try but looking for opinions.

I haven't used it to read a whole book, but I toyed around with it. One annoying thing is that I couldn't read books at work without calling the helpdesk to open up the firewall. For eBooks in general, I have found them to be of lower quality than their printed counterparts.

I prefer real books, but there is one I'm wanting that's only available in digital form. Thanks.

I just got a Kindle Paperwhite as a gift... haven't quite used it much yet, much it's seems pretty darn neat so far. I travel quite a bit so it's really nice to have something that small that can carry several books. The screen is really nice for reading too... not like reading on a computer at all.

Kindle for PC is a good reader and it's free. I prefer reading my Kindle stuff on the PC as I get it large enough...

I just got a Kindle Paperwhite as a gift... haven't quite used it much yet, much it's seems pretty darn neat so far. I travel quite a bit so it's really nice to have something that small that can carry several books. The screen is really nice for reading too... not like reading on a computer at all.

I also travel a lot so it could be nice to have a few books in my laptop. One can only carry so many paper books.

Yes, quite a lot. It synchronises with my actual kindle device, so I can read a few chapters on my laptop and then use my real kindle when I go to bed. Great system.
Use the best guess
My main reason for getting it was for one item. Not so much a book as just a very long article by Douglas Preston regarding the newest mess in Italy with Amanda Knox (Amazon called it a "Kindle single"). Very easy to read and navigate so I may get a few more titles for it. Still, there is no replacement for the feel of an old fashioned paper book.

Yeah that's definitely a huge advantage to having something like Kindle. I'm reading a huge book now and have traveled with it twice and it's definitely a pain in the butt to have to lug it around everywhere.

Well, reading one's paperweight is no weirder than using a telephone to take a picture, or making a phone call with a camera. :)

True... by the way... I can't read for very long periods of time on a regular PC screen because it eventually starts hurting my eyes, the readers are supposed to be a lot easier on the eyes than a regular computer screen. Thought I'd mention that since you are looking at the Kindle for PC stuff...

I prefer paper books, but I think I may see what computer-related titles are out there for Kindle. A few handy reference books for programming might cause me to buy a Kindle device.

I canceled my cable years ago. 7 million channels and almost nothing worth watching. All I use it for now DVDs and video games.
