So, last day in Dallas today. Been an OK trip, although I've been quite ill for a few days. We went to Walmart, I always check out the t-shirts, and buy some stuff for the kids. Got to the checkout, swipe my AMEX, it asks for the 'three digit code on the back'. Two issues. 1 - my Westpac card has the code on the front, which generates ALL sorts of arguments with the people running the checkouts when issues arise 2 - ALL Amex cards have FOUR digit codes. So, the machine asks for a code, I try to enter the last 3, and it asks me to sign, then says 'rejected'. I try my Mastercard ( same account ), does not ask for code, but, rejected. I try my EFTPOS card. Rejected. I try my debit VISA ( which is a different bank ). Rejected. All these cards work at target, at best buy, at starbucks, etc. I ended up getting the half of my order that I had cash for on me. This morning I go to buy medicine ( I am sick, remember ? ). My card does not work. Thankfully, I have enough cash, but I call my bank. No, they blocked my card due to suspicious transactions. Which ones ? The 8-10 that were sent by Walmart while they tried to make my card ( which is fine ) work with their system ( which apparently is not ).

Can't the Walmart Greeter help you? Anyway, I think you should just buy me a present and be done with Yankeeland for another few months.

I am done with Yankeeland as of today until Sept, when I come back to see Black Sabbath in San Fran. However, I can't really buy you a present when I can't use my card, right ? :P

They're all pretty bad. I've had cards blocked/cancelled for the following reasons:

          1. Buying PC components to the sum of £120. From a company I'd already dealt with before. Delivered to my home address. The bank knows what I do for a living, so I'd probably be buying this stuff.
          2. Attempting to withdraw cash from a machine. "Suspicious because you are so far away from home" it was in the UK, nothing is more than a day-trip from home, but it turns out your bank doesn't allow you to travel.
          3. Trying to get petrol from a supermarket. "Possible duplicate card", exactly the situation chip'n'pin is supposed to solve (I've not seen the magnetic swipe used for years). I checked online banking - no dodgy txns. When I phoned the bank there were no reports of anything suspicious on their system. I'm glad I insisted the woman behind the counter cut the card up as she insisted that she needed to "keep it complete so the bank can investigate", if wasn't such a well known supermarket (and so many witnesses) I'd have reported it to the police.

“Education is not the piling on of learning, information, data, facts, skills, or abilities - that's training or instruction - but is rather making visible what is hidden as a seed”
“One of the greatest problems of our time is that many are schooled but few are educated”

In this case, it was that the transaction was attempted so often. I've had a card blocked because they were suspicious about a $12 transaction in a different state at home, with a well known company that does school book clubs. Yes, my son's book with the school book club, melted down my credit card. It's nuts but, I've had fraud on my card, once, and the bank just kept giving me my money back. That they are that good about it, means they have to be careful to try to be proactive, so they don't lose money to fraud. I always have to tell the bank when I travel, although I don't have to tell them when I go interstate ( which is a longer distance than anywhere in the UK ).

Once had a company card that did not allow alcohol purchases. No problem as I do not drink. Well someone got lucky at guessing numbers and charged at a beer and cigar shop in a different state. They did not block that. They did however remove the charge, cancel the card and send a new one.

I'd be surprised if someone 'got lucky' and didn't actually gain the number in some illicit manner.

Actually there is a 3 digit code on the back. It is not he same as the Security code (the one used on online check outs). It follows your account number right above the sig area. The entire code is refereed to as the signature code. I have been using my AMEX for over a year with it doing that at Walmart. Did not always. The number it wants is the last 3 digits of the sig code.... Not sure why, but that makes it happy.

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

There is a 3 digit code on the back of a Mastercard or Visa. The number on the back is just my credit card number. I thought I'd tried the last three digits of my credit card number. I guess you're saying I didn't, and that my Mastercard had then been blocked because of the failed transactions with the Amex ?

I could get some Justin Beiber stickers, or a One Direction notebook ?

The daughter bought One Direction concert tickets last year with her own dollars. More than a year out from the concert. I'm sure she'd love the One Direction notebook. Considering the number of posters in her room and the shite she's already purchased from their store in town, anyway.

Hannah despises both of them, and she doesn't like when I tell her she is so vocal because she knows deep down that the love she gave to High School Musical and Jonas Bros would have gone to Beiber and 1D if she'd just been a little younger.

I have boycotted Walmart, they suck on so many levels.

Back before Walmart joined my boycott list for obvious reasons, I would get my credit cards blocked for Fraudulent activity whenever I went out of town and went to a Walmart. It seems Walmart is a major ref flag for CC theft... what does that tell you?

I make one trip, they have different shirts to Target, and I go to both. Most things, I get delivered from Amazon before I even arrive.

*grin* yes, that much is clear to me. But, surely the system can let an out of town guy make one purchase every visit ?
