A manager asked me to create a problem on a user's workstation so that the user would have to go home at 4:30 PM today. We have to get her office decorated for her 50th birthday party celebration tomorrow. I made up some nonsense about needing to test an important Microsoft update today and that I'll be working late to make sure her machine is ready to go by morning. We had to go this route because she's a dedicated worker - getting her to leave is much harder than we initially thought.

In that case the proper plan is for the decorator to go above and beyond, either staying/returning even later than Mrs Workaholic, or coming in before she does in the morning. Actually, that should always be the case; since Joe NineToFive could end up unexpectedly having to stay late the night before even if he almost never does.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies. -- Sarah Hoyt

That is really nice :) What a great place to work where managers care about their workers in this way:thumbsup:

I know some workplaces that would ask her to give back the time the day after the party! :)

Indeed, for the Sydney Olympics torch relay, we were allowed 15 minutes to go outside and watch the torch go past, but we had to make up that 15 minutes at the end of the day. No I don't work there any more :)

                I have no blog...
