Words that Sound Wrong to Say Right

Gnarly* assessment. ;P
*Not to be mean, but I mean "gnarly" like I mean "bad" to mean "cool" to mean "hip" to mean "rad"...

GIF. That is supposed to be prounounced like "I'll be there in a jiffy." However, everybody I have ever known has pronounced it like "I bought you a gift." I either actively choose to pronounce it wrong, or make a point to pronounce it both ways with a small explanation about the correct pronunciation. Are there any words you can't stand to pronounce correctly?
Pho (properly pronounced "fu") sounds really funny when the restaurant owner combines it with King and King Palace. Pho King Pho King Palace
you want something inspirational??

If we were working together, I would pray (and even pay for it) that you actively choose to pronounce it wrong every time and try my best to find you a better project in order to keep your mind busy in a more productive non-annoying way! :)

GIF is one of those I've always known was pronounced Jiff. When I was a kid, I pronounced "puny" as Punny" in my head (read a lot of superman comixs, so it came up an awful lot) and it took me years to get over that! Cache is one that I hate it when others mis-pronounce. And I like to pronounce Route and Router as Root and Rooter - but having moved to Aus, where they use Root as a synonym for intercourse of a sexual nature, I have had to change, and it still grates. Data - that's pronounced Dayta not Darta. Now you got me all owrked up !!!!!

I used to know somebody named that in school. We played a ton of ping pong.

Then it should have been "jif" not "gif". It's just pretentious bollocks to pronounce it like "jiffy"

There are tonnes of place names that sound wrong when pronounced right. Like Altrincham where the "cham" bit is pronounced like the "gham" in Birmingham (the one in the UK, that is!). Or Sirencester which is pronounced Sirenster. I had a classmate who wanted to go to University of Derby and was very confused when she received correspondence from the University. She thought Derby was spelled Darby. I get confused with the use of "arch". Archangel is pronounced Ark Angel. How about archrival? Or archchancellor?
Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike... me...

Oh... See wikipedia definition,
SQL (/ˈɛs kjuː ˈɛl/ "S-Q-L")... This version, initially called SEQUEL (Structured English Query Language),...The acronym SEQUEL was later changed to SQL
And so was the pronuntiation...
