It's clanging!!

It - that's my car. It's now about 8 months old and since perhaps 3 months it doesn't stop rattling. Where? Seems to be around my right back-wheel. :confused: What is it? NOBODY knows. :(( My car spent about 2/3 of the last month in the garage. Got some new parts, has been driven by many people on good and bad streets and everytime I picked it up it's been well-cleaned. But the noise remains. And that makes me really cheerless.:( Anybody out there undergoing a comparable bad situation??
Hey, look on the bright side - if whatever it is is still rattling, it's not fallen off yet! My guesses are.... Wheel balance (you notice it on the front wheels through steering wheel judder, but not so on the back wheels) Something fouling the wheel A bearing Something loose in the boot (trunk if you're in America ;)) Loose mudflap Loose exhaust But they are only guesses :)

If it makes you feel any better, a friend in Durban sent me this email yesterday: (Rhonda is her car's name) "... have been stuck in a bit of a mare lately hit a tree with rhonda about 3 weeks ago that was the start after that the clutch burnt out, release fork snapped, and pressure plate crumbled but that was not the end of it directly after picking rhonda up from the mechanic got hit in the rear by a toyota corolla ... My car has rattled (well, more like vibrated rather badly) on two occasions. On one occasion, one of my tyres was the problem. (Somehow, something had gotten between the layers of the tyre rubber.) On the second occasion, the problem was with one of my spark plugs. Not the plug itself, but the pipe-thingy that connected the plug to the engine. Hopefully your problem is also caused by something that can be easily fixed.

As has been mentioned, wheel balance is a possibility, I have heard of cases when a puncture has been repaired using the "aerosol gunk" this can form a ball inside the tyre and causes an imbalance. Or the silly one some ball bearings, nuts, bolts, in the boot or under the rear seat

I've saw several problems like "no one is able to find this **** noise!" within the fuel tank. It's fast and easy to check, it worth a look. I see dumb people

No, normally this is only a floating device, so it’s uncommon to produce noise from it. The most common problems with noises on fuel tanks are BOOM and clanging sounds which come from nowhere or from the back wheels, which can be caused by very small objects stuck on the fuel, and obstruct the fuel exit. Near where I live there is a garage specialized only on “strange noises”, and they are very good at it. They follow the sounds with a microphone and a meter until they find the source (even with the car in movement!). Maybe you can find a similar garage where you live. I see dumb people

Look in your trunk, what side of the vehicle is the spare tire. If its on the right side, make sure that they jack and the spare tire are mounted securely. I had a friend that had the same kind of noise in his Maxima, took it to the shop and all that, couldn't find the problem, then one day he checked his spare (don't remember why) and the jack was loose so at some points it would shake loose and start rattling until it got wedged and stopped. If its bearings, they make a whine when they start to go out and if its tire imbalance you would feel some shaking in the car. Another solution, is to have a friend follow you and watch the right rear tire, watch for a wobble in the tire, if it doesn't do this then the wheel/tire is fine and is not out of balance.
