    Reminds me of this...

    Question:

If somebody from the 1950's suddenly appeared, what would be the most difficult thing to explain to them about life today?

    Answer:

I possess a device, in my pocket, that is capable of accessing the entirety of all human knowledge. I use it to look at pictures of cats and get in arguments with strangers.

I'd like to listen to Pandora with my Mac's lid closed. No soup for you! The network turns off the instant the lid is closed. Googled it a bit and found a few threads containing dozens of posts invariably ending up at "why would you want your Mac to operate while the lid is closed!?!?!? That would surely cause the screen to melt!" Wow. Just, wow.

Even my Windows XP laptop can be set to just turn off the screen and keep everything running when lid is closed. :-D

If they let you do that, how would they sell you an iTouch or iPad? ;P

Found this in a quick search. As the cliche goes, there's an app for that. https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/22211/insomniax[^]

Yeah, came across various apps (including that one) that are supposed to be workarounds. However, the apps had reviews saying terrible things happened if they were used or that they prevented sleep without preventing network hibernation, and other annoying things. I think I'll just keep my screen open. :)

I have Pandora for my iPhone, but my iPhone was charging in the other room and I didn't feel like moving it (I know, I live a tough life).

"Do nothing" (the wording of the Windows lid option) options are not available in apple products. They have to make themselves seen and interfere in every aspect of your life, 24/7.

A perfectly valid point as far as I'm concerned... :-\

The United States invariably does the right thing, after having exhausted every other alternative. -Winston Churchill America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between. -Oscar Wilde Wow, even the French showed a little more spine than that before they got their sh*t pushed in.[^] -Colin Mullikin
