I live quite close to a power station. The electricity went off, there was an almighty bang, and now black smoke is pouring out of it. Do you think that is a bad thing?

Nah, they probably just stoked the smoke stacks. You're cool. Don't worry about the large explosion and shockwave in a moment... just nuclear fusion is all.

It's coal fired. Rather a lot of fire engines there now.

depends on fuel type and of what happened. At least close windows to don't breathe it

Given some of the very toxic / carcinogenic chemicals they use to cool the transformers, I would not want to be downwind from the smoke. Marc

I live a mile or two from the second largest coal fired power station in the UK. I hate to think what would happen if that went bang. They had a 'minor' incident a few years ago which happened to be going on as I drove past, lots of spinning red light, sirens, steam pouring out of holes in the ground and smoke billowing everywhere. It couldn't have looked more like something from Dante's inferno with a $150,000,000 budget and James Cameron running the show.

someone broke the smoke box. they'll have to order a new smoke box and until then it just won't work. that same goes for electronics as well. if smoke comes out that means the smoke chip was popped and needs to be replaced. :laugh: :-D
