In my original reply (or riply as the case may be) a tirade really, I wondered why on earth the media is covering this child's birth with so much attention and scrutiny. I don't think the second coming would get this much air time. I mean, there is no perceived need for it. There already is an heir who in turn has an heir. There's a whole slew of princes so that's nothing new. Honestly, let the child be with the mother and father, they might be princes and duchessessesses (when do I stop?!!!) but they're still a family and I am certain they'd like some bleeding alone time with the new born. Probably with Grandpa and Great Nana. I got this voice in my head now heralding, "Her Royal Majesty, the Queen of England and the Great Nana!"

There's a lot of news air, paper, and web space to fill and no more real news than there ever was. It's easy enough to avoid, I was down my allotment and the church bells were ringing out to announce the arrival which is rather charming. Now I'm back home, drinking pear cider to combat the heat and about to watch the second episode of the second series of Sherlock. In the morning I'll get up as normal, not put any news channels on as normal, not buy a newspaper as normal and get on with my life as normal.

Granted, but even I on occasion will flip the TV on just to flip through the channels. It is during those times that they pounce. Is the the series with Lucy Liu? How is it? I never got around to seeing it.

A new Heir to the Heir to the Heir to the British Crown. An 8-pound, 6-ounce boy at 16:24 local time (11:24 EST).

I have never understood why people are in the least bit concerned with the weight. It is one of those figures always given that means bugger all unless it is either massive or tiny. Anything else is just centre line of the bell curve and therefore unimportant.

Isn't that the point of telling the weight, so it's known to be healthy? If they didn't report the exact weight, wouldn't you guys assume it's not good?

Isn't this one only like 25% inbred, unless you are referring to all of your country as being inbred.

We've been invaded by everyone over the years. Loads of new sperm. Apart from Norfolk. The Royal families of Europe however have inbred themselves plenty of problems, even in fairly recent times.

I too have twins - 2.5yr old boys. I remember their combined weight was exactly 5kgs but not the individual weights. Please tell me the screaming and fighting ends, eventually.

I voted for a republic. A boy means the succession won't be tested (for a while).
