A friend of mine is planning to go to work to Germany. It seems that there are good offers related to his field of expertise. He asked me which would be a good salary for an automation engineer / robot + PLC + CNC programmer for a medium sized company in that country. Any of you can help me to help him? I would like to know which would be a normal salary, a good one and a really nice one. Or a good web page which could give me good information about that. Thank you in advance! :thumbsup:

In germany, all the salary is determined by the collective bargain from the respective union for the States. So there would not be much leeway. You or your friend can bargain for the better Slot. The german unions have Grade E1 to E14( Each grade with sub division A, B,C). You can look for the prospective salary in each grade in the website of the union. Make sure that all values are in Gross(Nrutto), so you have to calculate based on your class of taxation. Link of the major union[^]

The salary for engineers is usually according to the salary tables[^] of the IG Metall union. The table contains main groups (EG 1 to EG 12) with sub levels for different regions (mainly based on the federal states). An engineer will be in group EG 9 or EG 10 depending on the kind of degree and position. The sub levels are mainly defined by the experience. The tables show the monthly salary. To get the gross salary for a full year: Multiply value with 12, Add 70 % of a month salary as vacational benefit, Most companies pay a Christmas bonus of 25 to 55 % of the monthly salary (increasing with the years of employment), Most companies pay an incentive bonus of up to 28 % of the monthly salary (increasing with the years of employment).
