Fracking protestors.

Local Auntie[^] has been covering this protest for over a week now. I never knew we had so many police officers in West Sussex. I wonder how much the policing operation is costing as officers are diverted from other other essential duties? The protestors can say what they like, I've no problem with that. What seems to be in the under-current is an orchestrated strategy to cause maximum disruption. The tree-huggers are there, the unwashed weirdos are there, there's an occasional celeb dragged out from obscurity to promote the protest and voice their objection. I know some of the locals are pissed off about the drilling but I hope they remember that the next time they switch on the kettle and settle down to a nice roast prepared on a gas or oil fueled Aga stove exactly where the energy comes from in the first place.
If there is one thing more dangerous than getting between a bear and her cubs it's getting between my wife and her chocolate.

Is that an unusual\new strategy for the UK? It has been a rather common strategy in the US for 20 years for any protestors that have any idea what they are doing. They have specific strategies for causing disruptions and even for breaking laws so they can get arrested.

Long after the speaker has gone, they are still there nodding away, all controlled by a rogue C# thread that refused to terminate. On the subject of emotions there was a case in late 2011 when some happy-go-lucky student fees protestor, Edward Wollard, allowed his emotions to get the better of him. He lobbed a fire extinguisher from the top of a building down onto an assembled crowd of protestors and police far below. How it landed without hitting anyone was remarkable. He was hot-headed for sure but he was a whisker's width from causing death or serious injury.
