Nope (and he never made such a claim unlike Edison) Swann deveoped the vaccum process that made then last but he himself said that the basic idea had been arround for years

I don't think it was Tesla. I think there were multiple inventors who "invented" the lightbulb before. Edison was mereley the first to put the invention to some use. From todays perspective it might be that Edison just claimed to be the inventor so that he could claim patent rights on it ;P

For light compare lumems[^]. Different 40W bulbs will produce different amounts of light. That said here in the colonies we have a similar ban. Now instead of wasting energy, we are polluting with mercury and other things using the CFL[^] bulbs that do not last as long as we have been told. By the way LEDs do a good job of dimming. I just installed a spot light (yes I know you want candle) that stays dim until someone walks by when it goes to full on.

That's only true of really cheap bulbs or those intended as outdoor insecurity lights, etc. Like CFLs or many incandescents (to change the color temperature ex 'daylight' bulbs) good residential LED bulbs use phosphor coatings to convert the light from the LEDs into a broad spectrum similar to natural sunlight. Aside from a spike in the blue part of the curve where light not captured/reemitted by the phosphors gets out you'll get something that looks a lot like the blackbody curve of sunlight; they're much better than CFLs in that regard (CFLs are much spikier); the color balance won't be the same as with most incandescent because their black body curves are for much cooler temperatures than the sun meaning they peak in the IR not the yellow range. This article from last year's Popular Mechanics[^] has test results from about a dozen and a half bulbs of different types; on the bulb slides you can see spectral curves

That's an interesting idea. I don't know how they do it, but the bulbs you get on Christmas Trees short-circuit when they blow so that the others stay on. Perhaps you could use that technology to switch to a second/third/fourth filament when one blows. I'm off to the patent office.
