I wish I had the necessary IQ to understand what you wrote. Maybe I can get a scientist in a lab coat to explain it to me.

- According to "religion" parents make the shell (body) god gives the context (spirit, soul, mind, etc) - Don't know what's prevented them. But that's just the fact - Saddam had even installed sings saying "The descendant of mighty Nebuchadnezzar will rebuild these ruins of Babylon" and construction started. He is however busy with other stuff right now... - Yep :)
It is a paradox that paradoxes would actually exist in reality. That means of course that they don't exist. However, they do!

This could start a whole new argument (the existence of a soul). I could argue that you're mind is made from your DNA and from your experiences and that there is no such thing as soul or spirit (other than strong alcoholic beverages ;P)

There are many morons who believe and there are many morons who don't. I don't really see the connection between belief and intelligence.

That is true. Other may argue that the fact that you can argue is a proof you have something higher. Of course if you give them enough "spirit" they will revoke those argues and just keep a large grin on their faces. :)

I have a hypothesis about where the soul comes from: People want it to exist. They want their consciousness to be special somehow, not just the product of an elaborate electrochemical computer. They want it to be a separate thing, usually so they can then go on to say that it's immortal somehow. Because they're scared of death.

Purgatory! I went through a phase of being lambasted for posting duplicate thread topics. I was obliged to declare myself unclean, dead and/or alive, hence Leslie Nielsen, and I'm contracting the name. When I reach the point of singularity I will start expanding again but who knows where that will lead? I don't really know myself. ;)

From 'Posting Rules for the Lounge': 4. No politics (including enviro-politics[^]), no sex, no religion. This is a community for software development. There are plenty of other sites that are far more appropriate for these discussions. Or if you must, use the Back Room[^] - but enter at your own risk.
Yep. I actually answered, thinking it was in the SB, realised it wasn't then deleted my answers. Needs to be moved.

How so?
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.
Have you ever heard of a man called Galileo?

I hear your point Nicholas, though: The Christian church may have been proven wrong, but that does not shed any light on the existence of god question. Another interesting thing to notice is that there are quite a number of prophecies in the old testimony which (up to now as far as I know) have stood their ground completely, which I must say, is quite amazing for a book 3,300 years old (roughly). Further more, around 95% of History's top scientists believed in god. You can believe or not but it is sure foolish to think that your choice of the two is backed up with any scientific finding or that it is smarter to think one way or the other.

There is no archaeological evidence that the Israelites were ever in Egypt, therefore the Biblical Exodus cannot have happened, therefore the Biblical account of the founding of Israel cannot be correct...so how much else of it can you rely on?

If you have an answer, why not provide it? Don't play silly games. :) Galileo did not prove that religion is wrong. If you are trying to claim he did, I gladly await your reply.
