I think there are three or four Crawleys in England but none, I'll wager, as bad as the one in West Sussex. That's why it had to be up there in the league table. We wuz robbed. :((

Crap Towns[^] Luton finished second in the table. SECOND! How bloody dare they! We are by far and away a far worse place than Hemel Hempstead!

I passed by both this morning and they are as bad as each other. How they were able to distinguish between the 2 is beyond me. Anyway, took a wrong turn (I hasten to add that I wasn't driving) and we ended up heading towards Daventry - possibly worse than either! :-)

Hemel was still green and beautiful as ever when I passed through a couple of months ago. The most ridiculous concentration of speed cameras on ordinary suburban roads I think I've ever seen but it is Hertfordshire so I guess that's to be expected.

Are you sure that was Hemel? Many of the parts above the old town have now been overgrown with houses, and the town itself is not exactly prepossessing.
Use the best guess

I must be low on iron(y) again. I'll go and take an iron(y) supplement and try again tomorrow :)

Having visited all but Cumbernauld I can attest to the fact that these are butt ugly towns. I think that Americans can have no real idea of the utter fugliness of streets and streets of 2-up-2-downs in a dismal little town populated by single mothers, welfare claimants and wife beaters. As for the dullest. Probably; depends what you mean by dull, I suppose. Some of those are architecturally and historically quite interesting and one or 2 are beautiful; in particular Maidenhead is gorgeous especially along the river. Okay, not much happens but that doesn't make it dull. Oh, wait...

Hey, that's not fair. Most of them are only wife-beaters on Friday nights, after the pubs close, so they barely even qualify as part-time.
