One week left
-
I have one week left at my current position before I start something new. I was looking forward to my exit interview. Not because I wanted to tell them how to make things better, but because the HR lady is pleasing on the eyes. However, I just found out that I get interviewed by somebody else. Makes me not want to show up for my last day :(( Hogan

So don't show up. What can they do, fire you? Good luck with whatever's next!

That's not a good idea. You need to complete the legal niceties, including returning company property. Items like RSA SecureID tokens can become A Big Deal if you leave under poor terms. There can also be issues with how you roll over pension or retirement funds. If you don't attend the exit interview, they may resolve to default choices that you may not be able to change after the fact. During the exit interview, you are still an employee which grants you certain legal rights. Afterward, you're just another schmuck.

Some people would call me a schmuck right now :) I'll be there. I respect the people I work with too much not to show up. Plus I'm on call till 8am the last day, so I'll have my company laptop with me.

That's a good thing to remember. Those people you respect now are the ones you will come back to in the future for references, and you don't want their last memory of you to be how you stiffed them on your way out the door.

Don't forget to be nice on your way out... that's what people will remember and you can use them as a reference for any future positions. Good luck on your new job!

Of course it's not a good idea, Gary. I didn't mean it as serious advice, rather as setup to frightfully hilarious rest of the sentence. But you knew that already. Perhaps I should include smileys.

I once just phoned a company on leaving for work, waiting for a taxi, and just said I wasn't coming back. There were no issues but my laptop which was stolen out of the car the CTO sold me, which itself was stolen. :wtf:

And my last one I celebrated and drowned my sorrows on the way home, and got drunk enough to to be profane about the Development Manager that let me go. I was a contractor, and the contracting house wasn't too happy about it. I publicly apologised, and ignored the contracting house since. It looks like they have a scheme where they offer you a six month contract (aka probation), with the suggestion of a permanent position after that. Only contract after the six month contract, if successful, becomes a one year contract, and doubt the slaves ever see the benefits of a permanent position.
