I've been having hacking trouble for I believe just one hacker. It's been going on for over a year now. I got a vb portscan program to find open ports. What then?

I know how to deal with a hacker. When you find his ip and location. You go there during the late hours of the night and cut his isp cable into small pieces and leave them in front his door. Use unused pliers and hide them good. Don't forget to repeat periodically :)

Microsoft ... the only place where VARIANT_TRUE != true

Find out who his ISP is, call them and have them close his account. It will stop him temporarily, repeat after he gets a new ISP until he no longer has ISPs in his area he can use. (Did the first part once because someone was spamming a forum I was in charge of - turns out he was a kid and his parents were not happy when their ISP stop providing them service, never needed to repeat. )

I understand and I just wanted to do it to try and discover who he was. That is all. Thanks for responding.

Bitdefender reported this morning that it had shut down a port scan. That was good news because what it really told me was that the root kit was gone. with the root kit installed he didn't need to bother about a fire wall. He had an unlocked back door. The last time I did a clean install of windows I had turned off auto run on all drives. I had deleted the autorun.inf from my USB drive that contains my drivers and bitdefender files. Still the root kit got put back on. This time I found Panda USB Vaccine. I immunized my USB drives and it worked. Now Microsoft tells me that I can't activate windows because it has bee activated too many times. Any help with that would be really appreciated. Thanks for your time

I know for sure he is on Charter Communications. Thanks for reminding me, but doesn't his IP change every time he logs on?

Generally it won't change more often then every couple weeks, but it depends on the ISP. Of course, this is assuming he isn't using a proxy of some sort.

Agreed. I've never had a phone activation fail despite the install counter being too high for the auto install to work. (I suspect this would fail if you're trying to use a key downloaded from TPB or the like.)

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. Pretty sure I've seen that before. Something close enough too look familiar anyway. The deleting a CDR line is rather memorable.
