Could do like the US, and just lower the standards. It has long been noted that the students entering university are very weak in reading and writting. Of course still have to have the money to pay, and the Universities need the money to pay the professors and administrators.

Same in the UK. Either lower the bar or change the curriculum/examination system altogether. The fact that at least 50% of teachers have always been complete useless idiots, who, generation after generation, teach the next generation of teachers, means that teaching standards always decline until the requirements for teaching staff change. But it's much easier to simply change the standards required of the poor kids who are "taught" by these idiots -- that shows instant results, which is what politicians like. School scorecard systems, like those introduced in the UK not so many years ago, go some way toward improving/shaking up teaching staff, but politicians always bottle out of making proper use of the results.

          Aunty[^]:

Liberia's education minister says she finds it hard to believe that not a single candidate passed this year's university admission exam.

25,000 sit the exam, no-one passes. On a serious note, either the University is setting the bar to high or the students are not being given the teaching they need. Either way it is disgraceful.

Is it the same exam as last year? If so, I suspect chicanery, tomfoolery, or oopsies.

There's always the chance that they're trying to game the university-ranking systems, but, to be honest (after digging a little), it looks more like they just don't have the money to take on more students, so they're "closing the doors".

Like in spelling, for example? Sorry, Mate, but you can't attend Liberian universities. Try not to be too heartbroken.

I know I'm late to the party, but that is a grammatical error, not a spelling error :P

But as a former college teacher I'm far more concerned that High School graduates can't divide two numbers twice and get the same answer each time. Nor can they correctly write a check (or any other legal document), express a decimal value as a percent, or balance a checkbook register. Yet we allow them to vote on fiscal issues... Go figure. :sigh:

Or a typo? There are two many possibilities.

There is almost nobody that should be allowed to vote. The forefathers would not consider them educated. Use to be that only land holders could vote for good reason. People use to argue issues using logic, not emotions. Too many people vote on emotions, and do not think that we should use the lessons of history should guide our future.
