In a production code,I've seen logic that reads data from a stream one byte at a time on a 64 bit machine... Programmer's response on being queried. I wanted to write memory-efficient code ..

I wish I could slap but cannot for the programmer puts makeup and wears high heels and in today's post-feminazi world, it would mean lead to lots of vexatious and fictitious lawsuits. Anyways, mgmt has taken heed and have rolled back that out of production and gotten another bright programmer to redo the whole thing...

              That explains it then.

Magnificent. Is he sending one byte at time while writing data as well? Must be so much fun uploading huge files to your database.

You have to get away from thinking like that. The slap needs to come immediately and by instinct regardless of the sex of the programmer. Otherwise you are just being sexist. :-\ [EDIT] Oh, wait... I just re-read my employee handbook. Apparently I am not allowed to hit anybody in the workplace. :sigh: [/EDIT] Soren Madsen

Well, on 64 bit machine, at the very least, it would be 8 bytes at a time.... ------- Real men quit driving and long since walked/trotted away into the oblivion ....

Will know soon enough when I get to see the writing side. Holding onto a little hope because the other code was written by a different person (who incidentally has left few months ago)

I agree with you SoMad... But its more "once bitten twice shy", my friend... I've seen how the innards of Family Courts and VAWA Courts look like so and how it gobbles up men's assets/properties (few hundred thousand $ per bite) ... If its any consolation to you, I thumped my fist hard on mgmt table and that has set the remedial ball rolling ...
