That happens quite often when someone tries to create some new building. Effects like sliding ice sheets, wind tunnels, buildings that move and of course the ones that just fall down. And those are the ones done by respectable architects as well. Which is why it is so ridiculous to claim that engineering practices would make software development better despite the fact that almost all software development creates something new.

I like the council's solution -- don't let people park there. How about issuing a cancer warning to everyone who walks down the street? A sudden burst of energy that's enough to melt plastic is a high risk factor.

There are three options to fix this.. The interesting one is to add motors to all the windows so that the focus can be softened by spreading the reflections. The REALLY interesting one is to turn it into a solar furnace using the same focussing system. The one that will be picked though will be to paint the windows matte black.

The really funny thing is that he designed a building in Las Vegas that was the same. Apparently they put a non reflective film on the windows. One imagines he wont get too many more commissions for new buildings. And the people issuing building permits will be much more careful.

I believe I had read that the building developer had paid for his repairs.

Someone must have told the architect to stay focused. It looks like a cartoon building bursting from the ground.
I may not last forever but the mess I leave behind certainly will.

They could use one of those WW2 parabolic mirrors from the searchlights and reflect a super concentrated ray back to the building. I wonder if the car park could harness the energy.

Sounds like the same story about a new theatre they built in Los Angeles several years ago. The siding had many concave curves and was made out of a reflective steel. Some of it had a brushed finish and some of it had a smooth finish (to reflect the sunlight). Unfortunately, one of the concave bends was smooth and reflected onto the apartment complex next door. After a few small fires and residents complaining of the heat during the afternoon hours, the builders refaced the concave section of the theatre to a brushed finish, which no longer reflected the heat.
