Slightly off topic, Movie Quote of the Day does have some strange/odd choices I have a varied taste in movies (Harvey to Donnie Darko for example) but at times it strikes me that either you have a large DVD collection or a very odd Love Film subscription ;P

I used to have a large DVD collection - but then I bought a TV that supports USB, so now I rip 'em onto a USB HDD and it stays plugged into the TV. No more disk boxes to find space in the living room for, no more changing disks, do more finding Herself has put them back in the wrong box...and I have a backup JIC.

Well, I rip complete images to preserve all the extras. I could do it in less space if I ripped to avi, but I haven't really found a good program to do that, I find that the movie loses too much qualitywise... And it normally takes a hell of a long time to rip that way because you need to recoded the whole shebang. AND I also need to handle the whole subtitle aspect, which makes ripping a movie to avi a tedious process... :sigh:

Have you looked at Handbrake[^] - it's open source, and takes about 1/2 hour per DVD for me (on a not-state-of-the-art PC). Don't know how well it handles subtitles (I'm more concerned with making sure I never see them, as I have to read them and it distracts me from the film).
