Ok, may I then ask of the reasoning behind your statement? I'm dying to know why the Israel are the chosen people and why america would suffer if the support was withdrawn. I do know the jews believe that they were infact chosen by God. But how can you justify that without having to believe in judaism? -- Say it darling Doesn’t seem like you want that kind of honey, honey

I dont think that this region of the world has EVER been stable. You won't find me being an apologist for the Isreali's or the Palestinians. And as for out ties with Saudi Arabia and Syria.... They are both scum bags dictatorships. I think that if anything Sept 11 th has shown we need to deal with all of the issues here.. Israel is just as guilty as the Palestinians in the whole conflict, however Arafat was a fool for turning down the deal that was negotiated for him. Now look at what is happened since Sharon has taken power. I wouldn't cry any tears if Saudi Arabia's government fell, they are a petty group of people who are stuck between their hatred for the US and their fear of their own people. Like the article your like showed , if they grew kumchuats we wouldn't care, but the reality is they have the oil we need so we have to deal with them. If the US was so bad we would have stomped the Saudi Government back in the 70's, but we didn't and we won't. As far as the government that replaced the Taliban... you really think Afghanistan is worse off with a government selected by their own tribal leaders than they were with the Taliban or a bunch of armed thugs? Look what happened to Kabul when the war lords were in charge before the Taliban. The US should have a long term plan to help both Afghanistan and Iraq. Call it a Marshal plan if you will ... Japan prosfered after WW2, we should try to help again. The UN is a joke, 17 resolutions and Sadaam is still thumbing his nose at the UN. When are people really going to understand that the guys isn't going to play? As far as Sadaam's ties to Al Quada.... On Sept 10th no one here would have thought Bin Laden posed the type of threat he did. And I for one don't need to see anymore smoking holes in the ground to be convinced that the real world is a dangerous place. So let the Bin Laden's and Sadaam's be warned that they aren't safe. I want them to lose sleep at night and worry about whats going to happen to their friends and families. I don;t want innocent civiilians to be killed again.... theirs or ours. In Genesis Chapter 12 God makes a promise to Abraham that he will make a great nation out of him and that nation would be blessed. In verse 3 it then says that "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee". I do not beleive in Judaism, I simply believe the bible. And yes, although it is strange to many, I believe America should base it's entire Middle East foreign policy on this one sentence in the Bible. We do yes, but there is a big difference. Just because you are jewish doesnt mean your going to heaven. The jews crucified their savior. Must of them Do not believe that Jesus came to save them, just that he was a good teacher. They believe their messiah has not come yet. They can only get to heaven the same way you or I can. When I mean chosen people I more mean they will be blessed on this earth. And God will bless those that bless them. Why? Because he is God and that is what he promised Abraham. Even for the most part Jews seem to be succesful. The run many businesses and are positions of political power. They also have managed to survive wars that they really should have lost. In revelation much of the end times occurs through Israel. And we as Americans are stupid if we do not acknowledge the fact that we arent the most important nation in the world. Israel is. The UN is a joke, 17 resolutions and Sadaam is still thumbing his nose at the UN. Do you know how many UN resolutions there are against the US? Not to mention those we have vetoed. Remember our adventures in Nicaragua, Guam, etc.? Remember how we assassinated the democratically elected president of Iran and put our puppet, the Shah, in place?

That just sounds like an arguement for a long term commitment. I believe that we should commit to being there to help out the people. Iraq probably has an advantage with their having the possibility of using their oil revenues after the conflict. Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

I agree. Intervening in an area carries the responsibility of helping to sort out the mess afterwards. Humanitarian considerations aside, if that isn't done the chances are what arises afterwards isn't at all what the nations intervening would expect or be happy with. Sadly, Afghanistan may well turn out to be an example of that. Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk
