The volume down button on my Lumia 720 acts weird. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issues as it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. The volume up is okay and works everytime. Now the down key hasn't been working for the past 2 days and no matter what I do, it simply doesn't work, so if you increase the volume to 30, the only way to reduce it is to restart the phone and resets it to 13. Googling and Bining hasn't helped much since many people have reported this issue but there seems to be no solution at all. Before I take it to the Nokia care center, I just wanted to check if any of you has had this issue and found a solution for it.

I do have a 720. Button works fine for me (although I tend to touch it while holding the phone..)

The signature is in building process.. Please wait...

It could be a hardware issue - dirty, greasy contacts don't always make a clean contact, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. May be worth a quick spray with contact cleaner (or even just compressed air if it's low enough pressure)

have you tried the nokia diagnostics? type into your phone like you were dialling a number ##634# and this will load a diagnostic's app. In there, there is a hardware buttons test.

I think that is a WP7 feature. On my Lumia 920, that code does open a view, but all I can see is "Color Variant" and "Lifetime Counter". Soren Madsen

Yeah, me too. The info I found pointed to using "WinPhone Info Free" for diagnostic. I tried it out and it does have good information, but I don't see any volume controls. Soren Madsen

Have you tried 'Factory Reset' the phone. It will eliminate possible software issues, and after doing that if the problem exists then it's a hardware issue. And you need a replacement.

If it's anything like the itoy, it might be taking pictures instead of adjusting the volume. Look through the settings of camera and music/video apps, to see if they've taking over the use of the button.

Sounds like bad hardware to me.
