Jesus loves you - a fine thing to hear in Church, a horrifying prospect in a Mexican prison.

If you want to be some bandito's bitch then go right ahead. I'll go to Church and still be able to sit down.

Ok! OK! I won't! I wasn't planning to anyway, but if it makes you feel better I'll stay well away...

The only instant messaging I do involves my middle finger. English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

It seems he was not responding directly to "Jesus loves you" but rather to,

                I found it amusing.

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet. The interesting thing about software is it can not reproduce, until it can.

Because 'every priest wants to bugger the bejesus out of you'. Allegedly.

Well I went to a social at our Catholic Church last night and I have no problem. Please don't confuse how the Church dealt with abuse, with the prevalence of abuse. If you use the same argument then we'd stop sending children to school, because there are so many teachers who have abused children. Lets shut down every children's home for the same reason. If you like to drink, you'll go to a pub rather than coffee shop. If you enjoy dancing, you go to nightclubs and not Tesco. You like swimming, then go to the pool rather than than woodwork classes. People chose their jobs and hobbies based on what they like and dislike. I am afraid that extends to the sick minds who abuse children - they are attracted to jobs and places that put them in contact with children. [DISCLOSURE - I am a practising Christian but not a Roman Catholic; my wife is and our daughters are both baptised in the faith. I see a lot wrong with the Church as an organisation, but I also so the great good that it does.]

I do not confuse the frequency of the offense with the depth of the cover-up, or the prevalence of the media attention. I happen to live in an area with a few high-profile cases, but I understand that it's not the norm, and that the rate of offense is probably only marginally higher than other jobs with children (which I have no data on, just figure this job has the most trust and secrecy, which I can imagine would be sought after). I was merely trying to make light of the idea that only one Jesus would prevent you from being able to sit down. Still, trying to keep things light, your comment about taking children from all the threatening places reminds me of a Southpark episode where the town sent the children away because they heard on the news that most molesters are someone known to the child. Somehow, they became Mongolians and came back to conquer the town to much hijinks and Southpark-style hilarity (such as it is). I tend to agree that the church does a lot of good, but that it's burdened by a lot of waste too. I apologize if I've offended, as it was not my intention (any more than saying/typing the word 'church' tends to offend people in general).
