...It uses very little CPU overhead - so little that it even runs smoothly on a 233 MHz system! Remember, when that was a fast system! :-) Now they are making minimums to meet 233MHz...sheesh! Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates
And it's lies. The thing looks pretty hot, but running alone on my P III 700 128 MB RAM ( yes, it's wimpy, I have 640 MB at home ), W2000 reports 100% CPU usage. It doesn't seem to slow down what I am doing though, it seems to run in OnIdle, or only when the desktop is visible. Time to break out spy++ :-) But you already have no time from all the work you do, Christian ;-) Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates
Actually, right now I am working every waking hour to get a version done and then I hope to resume my studies of ATL and learn the Flash SDK. Why, have I been complaining ? ;) Christian #include "std_disclaimer.h" The careful application of terror is also a form of communication. I feel for you I have just started testing the water's with "ATL", and man, MFC hid a lot from you ;-) I currently acquired the red book on ATL programming (WROX PRESS, I just call them RedBooks like the old Novell books, because, well, the cover's red!) I REALLY feel for you on ATL, but you'll probably pick it up a lot faster than me. I'm just trying to understand the concepts! Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates

To be honest, I generally find unless I can relate it to a work project I have trouble finding time to learn things. I have the 'Beginning' red book, and I've been reading it off and on for about a year, just bedside reading, and on the bus sort of stuff. So now I'm finally applying it I'm not finding it too hard at all, because it's the culmination of stuff that's been percolating in my mind for a year or so anyhow. That's not to say I don't get stuck, just that I'm sure it would have been a whole lot worse if I'd not saturated my few remaining spare brain cells with it for such a long time !!! I just ordered ATL Internals from Amazon, I expect that to give me a month long headache but hopefully at the end of it I'll have a good idea of what is going on behind the scenes. For now I just know that stuff vaguely, I more know how to make something work than what is going on ;) Actually when you said red book I though it was a nod to the OpenGL Red book. Are we officially "off-topic" yet? Since I have your ear, Christian, how do you find the incentive or motivation to complete something that is not work related? (Anyone feel free to answer) I'm having problems getting started with some coding ideals I have, and new concepts I want to learn just because I get burnt out at work, and have to devote my whole time to that... I have started ActiveX control projects, played with DX and OpenGL, but I have never seen them to completion, or found the motivation to keep going. I'm like this will be cool, and then I see it has already been done! Just totally kills my motivation. Like to know your secret! Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates

Are we officially "off-topic" yet? I'm not sure, but I suspect so :) Since I have your ear, Christian, how do you find the incentive or motivation to complete something that is not work related? (Anyone feel free to answer) I'm having problems getting started with some coding ideals I have, and new concepts I want to learn just because I get burnt out at work, and have to devote my whole time to that... I find it's a combination of factors. 1/ I just love programming. If I'm not doing something for work, then I'll find something else to do, because I enjoy it. 2/ All my close friends are also programmers, and an air of friendly competition exists between us. I finally got started on ATL because two of my friends are doing it in thier jobs and I thought I'd better not let them open a gap in that respect ;) 3/ My work is almost all graphics code. Go to jobnet.com.au and search for graphics jobs. A healthy sense of fear is not to be disregarded as one reason I try to broaden my horizons. 4/ Also not to be underestimated is a great work atmosphere that means I don't feel overly burned at the end of the week. At the end of the day, I'd say past history would also indicate that it's also my nature to throw myself fully at things I do, so that combined with the factors above means it just doesn't seem right for me to NOT be programming unless it's because I'm putting time in with my family. I have started ActiveX control projects, played with DX and OpenGL, but I have never seen them to completion, or found the motivation to keep going. I'm like this will be cool, and then I see it has already been done! Just totally kills my motivation. Like to know your secret! As for being motivated when I see that what I'm doing has been done, I don't really look at it like that. If it's an outside thing then I'm doing it to learn so I can be better, that other people are better than me is a given, but doesn't deter me from trying to be the best I can. The project is an excuse to learn, it's once I've learned something like WTL or GDI+ that I can think about using it to create something that has actual cool appeal. For example, ( getting back on topic ), I've been looking at this screen thing all afternoon ( during compiles, of course ) and thinking I'd like to take a shot at doing something similar. It's been done, but I think I could learn a thing or two out of doing my own version. Christian #include "std_disclaimer.h" The careful application of terro

Not to brag, but it looks great on my machine. But then most things do... p4-1.7, 256mb of pc800 RAM, 64mb vid card. If you use winamp you should check out his(geiss') plug-in. It make your music look really cool. Josh josh@that-guy.net

Looks brilliant, but the screensaver does not start on my system, anyone else have any problems? System : p3/450, 192mb, win2ksp2, dx8 I've tried their troubleshooting forum, but it seems to be down at the moment...
