My favorite part about that one is the apparently non-functional "Do not remind me later" button.

That's how I found out that I'm actually a machine. Life is pretty cool now, it's like I'm living in a Philip K. Dick novel.

I want to shank the person who thought that one up. Then I want to doubly shank the person who approved it. Just yesterday I was setting up my new laptop and grabbing tools to mount ISOs. I wanted the basic version (aka free) so went to the site, and just to the right, up on top, right under the name of the software... "Start Download - Free Version". Sure enough, advertisement. Back, scroll down, and I see the real link, in a green button about a quarter of the size of the ad. "Download". This is not the first time this has happened to me. :sigh:

Its gotten to the point that I always look for the smallest download link on the page. Even then, I carefully study it to make sure its what I really want to download and not some ad. Its not free software if its bundled with a lot of crapware, and the crapware pushers want us to pay.

Talking of which, had to get up a bit earlier than usual this morning so set my alarm for 0640. Hit snooze twice and got up at 0700. Had shower, woke my daughter up, went downstairs. Kitchen clock said 0615. Work phone said 0615. Went back upstairs, retrieved my phone, it said 0715. 5 minutes later it returned to the proper time and then at 0640 the bloody alarm went off again. Last week it spent a good part of the day claiming it was early in the morning of 2nd January 1970. Think I may need to rethink what I use for an alarm in the mornings.

Its not supposed to roll over till 2038. You're not slumming back here in 2013, are you? :)

I agree, all whitepapers can be summed up by saying "here's a problem I've just plucked out of thin air, and here is the solution to that problem which happens to involve you buying my product!

Hmmm... I'm not selling things when I write them, but I wonder if the devs at a certain company feel that way when they implement a feature in an engineering analysis tool that essentially breaks physics and I write a white paper on how the physics actually works along with sample code so that their results actually match with other prominent and validated tools.

Those are definitely the worst. It is so automated that only a machine can decipher it... So much for a Turing test.

Starting to think people post kid pics in their profiles because that was the last time they were cute - Jeremy.

They don't even use their own pix - they get them from a cute kids pix website! The ads that really frost me, are those that are longer than the video that follows, and don't have "Skip Ad" links.

Newspaper articles that talk of 'Miracle' cures to diseases, that will be available in '3 to 5 years' ...it's certainly been a long 3 to 5 years.
