Well, now they say they need my letter of resignation ( I did not provide one and have told them via email three times I did resign ), a letter from my boss stating I had resigned, and a letter from my boss confirming I had returned all company property. Thing is, I was meant to keep it to do some contracting. So, I guess they will stop paying me my wage ( because they know I resigned ) but won't pay my termination payout ( as they don't have confirmation I resigned )

Sounds like a great company to work for! Surely none of this is your problem? If they need a letter from your boss, then they should be chasing him not waiting for you to chase them? Hope you put some really gnarly stuff in the code base in your last hours :)

I am the one who won't get my final pay for weeks, when I was relying on it to pay some things off. It's disorganised, as usual.

So, b/c I work for a US company, it's an Aussie company they own that pays me. me : so, I've given notice, does the company know ? They didn't answer my email boss : yes, they know, you'll get your last pay on your last day me : OK Did I get paid ? No. Did they know ? No. Had I kept quiet, I bet they would have kept paying me until the zombie apocalypse.

You must be glad you left. What if they had messed up a couple of zeros in your pay? So, in my part of World, we usually get paid few days after we leave. Companies claim that this duration is needed to calculate if employee owes them something. If yes, they just deduct it from last payment. Is it something different where you work?

They could have paid in a few days, I would not have minded. The issue is, they had no idea I was going and I don't know when they will pay. It seems to me, given that I worked for a company in the US and the pay came through a sister company in Australia, that I could have kept quiet and had two salaries for years. It probably would have come to light when some HR geek asked why I'd not taken leave in 2 years.

never thought this happens with a company. are there any instances where a company continued paying a person despite them leaving the organization? (i hear such stories in govt agencies).

Hmm... My mom received paychecks from the company my dad used to work for, up until about 6 months after he had died... Makes you wonder: was he that good at work, or did he just go unnoticed?

That is really interesting. A little extra money for doing nothing never hurts. I would have stayed quiet.

I've had clerical errors result in double pay and so on before. Always be honest. Then you can live without fear.

Or you could just fake your identity in legal documents and get away with it. P.S. You do realize I am not serious about any of it. I too would have done the same thing as you suggest.

Whahaha :D As if inefficiency would be the sole area of government; only in the distorted world of economics government is inefficient and companies always the top of efficiency. As soon as people are badly supervised and/or anonymous in your organization, they'll start to slack. They do not check whether they are paid by the government or a corporation before starting the slacking. Less propaganda, more actual thinking, learning and education, please.
