Well, I'm back in the wonderful world of CodeProject. :) I was out for a little bit. I left my last job due to some issues there. But I got my first big break in the professional world, thanks to the experience at my previous job. I posted my resumé on CareerBuilder.com and I received a call from a firm in Nashville about a week later. I've been working as a programming consultant since last Tuesday. I just wanted to say hey and let everyone know I'll be around more often. :-D

Nashville, is nice, I hope you are getting well compensated. Every time I have tried to get a contract their all of the companies have been notoriously tight.

Need custom software developed? I do custom programming based primarily on MS tools with an emphasis on C# development and consulting. "And they, since they Were not the one dead, turned to their affairs" -- Robert Frost "All users always want Excel" --Ennis Lynch

Well, given that I have no formal education in the field (no degree, no certification), and not even a high school diploma -- I'd say $40K isn't bad to start out. However, I live in a small town about 45 miles from downtown, and this town is cheap as can be. Taxes are lower, housing is significantly lower. So I can make a good living here just off of my starting pay. :-D

I appreciate it, pkfox. I've worked my butt off for the past 16 years, since I was 10, to get into this field. And it's finally paying off. :)

Hi Matt, I retrained when I was 36 , going from being an engineer to a software engineer, three plus years of studying with very little money and being with people half my age who were only doing it as a way of avoiding the real world, I still study like crazy despite having been in the game 20 + years now, still love what I do, go for it mate and best of luck. We can’t stop here, this is bat country - Hunter S Thompson RIP

Oh, I study every day. I'm always looking to expand my horizons. Plus, my employer covers 100% of the cost for certifications, including .NET Framework. I plan to work toward a few certifications in the relatively near future. They also cover education costs, so I may look into obtaining my degree in the next few years as well. :)

Be careful of the syntax there. He may try to feed you to the hamsters.
