I'm needing a new printer at home. Currently, I have an old Epson R800 inkjet, it starting to show its age, paper doesn't pickup etc.I also have a Epson V600 scanner on my desk. My eldest also has a inkjet all in one printer/scanner. Because they both rarely get used, the inkjets dry out and go through a gallon of ink to re-prime and clear the nozzles. I feel it is time to get a new printer and think that I will go for a colour laser or a colour laser all in one. I am thinking probably HP (or Epson), with >= 1200dpi printing resolution, reasonable time to 1st page and might go for an all-in one printer/scanner. Interface needs to ethernet and/or wireless. Any recommendations? So many to choose from.

Well it would depend on the amount you are printing but the HP3700 here in the office just works, with out complaint (or new toner) the one thing is HP stands for Highly Priced!

I'd find someone who know about printer inks/toner cartridges and look at the prices of those first. I can replace my Epsom Multi-Function inject for the cost of two sets of coloured ink. If only we knew someone who knows about the printer related consumables business.

Strange you should say that I seem to remember a beloved child hood terror carrying a bucket full of something, I'm sure he could help.... :)

I have a Brother 9840CDW, which isn't made anymore, but it runs like a tank and does what I need it to do. It also does duplex printing, which is good for saving paper. Looking at Brother's website, any of the MFCs here would be good. http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/Color_Laser_Multifunction/#.Uo9rY_nbM6w[^] I just remembered (I think anyway), that Dalek Dave has a printer supplies side business. I bet he could also give you a good recommendation too.

We have a couple of HP 4700 units here at the office, and they've been excellent workhorses. We use them for high quality graphics work, as well as monthly billing - about 5,000 invoices a month - and they just keep on running. They're expensive to feed, but cheaper than most other brands. Every few years we have to replace the fuser unit, but that's neither difficult nor expensive.

                Will Rogers never met me.

I went with an HP 5000dtn series so the boss can print up to 11x17 proofs for her design business and anyone on the network can print to it. Also duplexes. Supplies are a minor fortune, but with it being a tax write-off, it doesn't hurt so bad, and it is not too often (30000 pages or so). I was able to get it used and it just keeps on churning out the pages. Personally I keep trying to get her to spend her 'company' money on one of the poster sized photo printers, but she hasn't been persuaded.
