I am attempting humor: my dad is still called Jock because of his Glaswegian brogue. Oddly, I can't hear it at all but can hear it on other people.

I didn't realize - my bad. :-O I meant it about Glasgow though - not a place I would want to live...heck I didn't even like driving through the place. Had a couple of good restaurants though. This one for example I remember well for the quality of teh wine list: http://www.ubiquitouschip.co.uk/[^] Menu - one side of A4 (Perfect! Means they concentrate of getting the dishes right) Wine list - at least two volumes. I suspect there was a third volume, but we never got that far despite some heroic trying and serious damage to the client's expense account.

Yeah because nerds and vexillologists are well known for not being pedantic about this sort of thing.
Definitely a better name than the last one!

So,should Scotland go for independence (and I'm beginning to think they might), what are the rest of us going to be called? Currently the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain refers to the island which is made up of England, Scotland, and Wales. United Kingdom refers to the unification of the kingdoms of England (which included Wales) and Scotland. The only bit of the current name which would make any sense would be Northern Ireland. What should a new country consisting of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland be called? No politicising please, just a bit of fun.

I wish people would learn to count their blessings. Luton exists. If you live somewhere else, stop complaining.

I qualify as I have been married to Hungarian for over five years and have made it my home; even though we work here. I have to have an interview with the Consul at the Embassy; a nice chap who Mrs Wife knows. The only iffy bit is that I am supposed to have adequate language skills; we can work around that.

Yesterday I was wondering if we would have to lose the blue bits off the union flag.

Some possibilities: - England. Let's be honest, that's what the rest of the world is going to call you (they already do). - UK. What independence? Will the rest of world even notice? - K. No more U, just K. It's stupid and no one will accept it, but at least somewhat accurate.
I like K. Sounds good.
-
And... if Scotland won't be part of it again. How would the UK flag look like? Would you just remove that blue/white background? :)
Exactly what I was thinking.

Well, UK would still make sense. If Scotland is part or not doesn't matter. Well, as long as there are at least 2 Kingdoms Countries (I don't think you can call them kingdoms anymore. There is one queen for all of them, isn't there? ;P) that are united you can still stick to that name ;)

Cornwall, do they have fire yet???
I resent that, the guy down the road had a fire the other week. It was quite impressive, it shall be remembered in song for many generations... (I live in Cornwall, btw, in case that wasn't obvious?)
Er, I can't think of a funny signature right now. How about a good fart to break the silence?

Just nod and grunt, then you'll come across as the strong silent type...

The UK will no longer be a United Kingdom but a separated or split kingdom. So we will be called the SK. If we remove the Scottish part of the flag then a number of other flags will be affected. The UK flag in top corner of the following countries; Anguilla, Australia, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cocos Islands, Cook Islands, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Heard & McDonald Islands, Montserrat, New Zealand, Niue, Pitcairn Islands, St. Helena & Dependencies, South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands, Tristan da Cunha, Turks & Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, ... .. :^)
