Edit: I found a patch that fixes it from this[^] article. Is anyone else having trouble with Windows Update for XP? I just restored an old laptop from its factory image, and let it go all night looking for updates. In the morning, the progress bar was still churning and there was no network activity, and it didn't find any updates. :~ Is anyone else having trouble getting updates for their XP machines? I'm looking to make sure my XP machines are all up to date before support is ended.

The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

I'm not superstitious, but make a dump run and take the 200 pounds of dead weight in blown glass and miscellaneous mishe metal off that old desktop before running the WU wizard. Oh, and enable automatic software updates. If only for a couple of hours. Be nice to the dump attendant also. To reiterate, I'm not superstitious.

Try downloading SP3 and installing it. If this does not work there should be a fix for Windows Update on MS site.

:| I have many old, working computers that I don't want or need to upgrade. My everyday computer is Windows 8, so I'm not really USING XP. Does it not make sense to make sure they have the latest updates before XP support is cut off?
