Sun produce a community version of their own IDE "Sun ONE Studio" which is based on Forte. It's pretty full featured, runs OK on Linux but seems to be very slow on Windows XP, it's been a while since I last used it so they may have improved this aspect. You can get it from http://wwws.sun.com/software/sundev/jde/index.html[^]

JCreator is very good. http://www.jcreator.com/[^] There is a freeware version and a pro version which is still cheap. Its written in C++ so its fast, with Intellisense etc. In fact its not unlike Visual C++ 6. Which was just what I wanted. There is of course the very good open source Eclipse project, on which the IBM Websphere Studio Application Developer is based. eclipse[^] also a lot of plugins are written for it, that can be found at: eclipse-plugins[^] Bart
