I was in discotheque last night (yeah, rock n'roll,baby), and I heard perhaps the only song in german which made a major hit in France, ""99 luftballons". "99 Kriegsminister Streichholz und Benzinkanister Hielten sich für schlaue Leute Witterten schon fette Beute Riefen: Krieg und wollten Macht Mann, wer hätte das gedacht Daß es einmal soweit kommt Wegen 99 Luftballons" Sounds weird in these days, isn't it?

So it would be ok for Saddam to ask Kim Il for a nuke, and drop it on New York, when this would make the US back up and he could claim less people died than in an attack on Iraq? The US didn't "narrowly beat germany" - germany wasn't even working on it: Einstein and otehrs were afraid they would do. The US had over 200 nukes before anyone else had even one. The point of mentioning that the logic of the time was that it would bring an early end to war with Japan was simply a reflection of the thinking of two generations ago that was used to justify the action. We could discuss for ages how much responsibility a country has for it's history... The world won't become a safer place by bombing Iraq, but these mustardheads abuse fearmongering imagery to suggest that. The reminder served as a reminder: that the US did "the unthinkable" first, and at least it's people claim it was the best for all involved - but the same act done to a US town is "unthinkable". I don't suggest the US to "eat their own medicine", but at least they should stop prescribing what they don't like themseves. A soldier in the trenches can flee, can revolt, can surrender. A civilian in a town can not. For the self-righteous thing: My Hometown[^] was the first where an firestorm was caused intentionally. We had no Marshall plan for rebuilding, I grew up with the reminders of that night in my daily view, and still today there are a few scars. I'm not blaming or fishing for empathy, just telling the facts: I very well know how ruins in front of your door step look like.

Would it be fair to you to point out what Germany was doing during the early 1940's?
