Audioengine makes some wicked speakers that are about in that price range. Not sure if you can get them shipped to the UK though, worth a browse. http://audioengineusa.com/[^]

Thanks - can get them here in the UK, but quite a bit mroe expensive. But in the end I settled on a different solution anyway: got myself a DAC box and hooked my computer up to my hi-fi system. Results are awesome! :)
