Smell and taste are already noticeably different. I can smell the rabbits now, we have a couple of rabbits in the house in a cage, and it stinks! :) Apparently the chance of a heart attack halves in three weeks or some such, which is a remarkable change. I stopped flemming up huge gobs of crud after the second week. In itself an interesting experiment in finding out just how much crap there is in your lungs as a smoker. Next I need to do some fitness, get my software engineers body back in shape because its skiing time soon! Need to be fit for that, its sodding knackering. I thought I would do a few ks each day on the bike, should be good for the legs and lungs.

Funny how people have to find these things out for themselves rather than use the example of others.

:) I don't shy away from fatty food, buttery sauces, blue cheeseetc, love it. But I hardly never eat sugar, I really don't have a sweet tooth, but all I eat is made fresh, with lots of the supposedly good ingredients, garlic, olive oil, fish, greens etc. I went to the docs last year, had a bp of 104 over 57, OK, I was a bit relaxed, its normally a bit higher than that and had my cholesterol done a few years ago, it was bang on normal, so I think my diet is sustainable.

My eyesight has improved. Weird.
Probably because your glasses aren't covered with nicotine stain. You probably noticed that everything you see aren't quite as yellow as well. :) I quit for 20 years, then I started occaisionally like you, when I was having a beer or two. Guess I need to stay away from the bar. Congrats on the first month.
It was broke, so I fixed it.
When I am 70 or so I am gong to start a serious cocaine habit.

That makes it a calendar month. Have to say, it was helped by a shitty cold that lasted almost 2 weeks, but its actually been easy; I just stopped because of the cold and didn't bother restarting. It wasn't intentional. :) My eyesight has improved. Weird. My lungs are clearer and I have more energy. Mind you not poisoning yourself with carbon monoxide is gong to help.\ So all in all interesting, and here is a tip: Smoke until your mid 40s, That way when you stop you will feel young again and be as healthy as you were in your 20s and so not feel the effects of ageing!
Well done, that man. Keep it up. I gave up about 20 years ago. Felt crap for a year, put on a bit of weight but it is worth it.

It's a denial thing, I suspect. "Yes, I know smoking is dangerous and ruins health. But not mine!"

Works well doesn't it? In a few weeks it will be a year since I had a cold, stopped smoking and did not buy any more tobacco since then. Instead, I now spend that money on building and flying model helicopters.

Its a real killer, and owrse than that, its a shadow life. A real waste of time. If you smoke, just do it properly and kill yourself, If not, then live! :)

30-40 a day!!! It was bad. :sigh: Anyway, put on weight and had a cough for ages. Also, I quit cold turkey. Just stopped one Thursday afternoon in September. Got in my car and went to light up. Decided I didn't want to do it anymore and have not smoked since. Have never even craved ne and I'm not all that bothered if others smoke around me though I do hate the smell. Good luck: it's never too late to quit. Except, of course, if you are on your death bed. Not going to help you at that point. :-)
