We realized we didn't have a succinct name for something today & wondered if anyone else had. These are bracket () These are braces or curly brackets {} These are quotation marks "" But these are less-than, greater-than signs <> Hardly rolls off the tongue, does it? How about pointy brackets? [EDIT] I mean when used as a pair (eg in HTML tags) - individually, the names are fine What do you think/use? Regards, Stewart

I've always called them angled or angle brackets in the context of a HTML tag for example.

No, they are parentheses. These [] are brackets.

Strictly speaking they are double quotation marks, as opposed to the single ones.

Cheers Looks like angle brackets is the way forward - I'm just staggered it has taken me over 15 years of using them to realize I didn't have a name for them. Also slightly embarrassed not to have thought of Googling :-O Regards, Stewart

Depends on how I use them. Angle brackets if used to enclose code, text or HTML. Less than or greater than if used in a conditional statement. Left fish, right fish according to my daughter. :)

It was broke, so I fixed it.

A tattoo with an ID number in case they should get lost (they won't, because the are all indoor cats, but it good to be on the safe side). It was normal before to do that, and the numbers are registered in case it should be necessary to identify them. Nowadays, cats are marked with a chip under the skin - which is better, because it hurts less when they are marked.

Some people call them "less" and "great"[^] or "wahka"[^], apparently.

What is this talk of release? I do not release software. My software escapes leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

I heard about the chip. Currently my kitties don't have, but i ever leave for somewhere with them(i really hope so) they will get one. I never saw or even heard about putting tattoos in their ears. We have no laws about identifying lost cats.

It's not a law here either, but good practise. Another advantage with the chip over the tattoo is that the chip is always readable. The tattoo behaves just like a human tattoo - it flows out and becomes less readable over time...
