I tried it for a couple of days too, but I couldn't get used to it. However, I'm open to be convinced and it will be very nice if you could give some specific points on why and/or how exactly is it better when compared to Windows 7.

That is by far my favorite new feature on Windows 8/8.1. I hope you will agree that is a very concise grouping of the things you use the most to administer your machine. BTW you can right click in the lower left corner to display this menu also. Two other features new to Windows 8 are breadcrumb trail in file explorer and active tiles on start page. With breadcrumb trail you not only can go up one level but with one or at most two clicks (depending on path length) you can go to anywhere in the current path. With active tiles you can see a lot of current information;calendar date,time,selected stock prices, todo list, current currency exchange rates (currently under development), news headlines, etc. I can see where active tiles can provide a dashboard, of sorts, where a lot of information is available at a glance and then you can drill down into areas that catch your interest. I used to look for the start button a lot at first until I got used to going to the start page (if on the desktop) and start typing the name of the program I want to run. After a few keystrokes it will appear in a drop down list where you can click to execute it. A lot faster than going through the all programs menu on the start button. Now in Windows 8.1 where I have access to the start button I don't use it because the other way is usually much faster to get a program up and running. Those are only a few of the things that come to mind. I'm sure there are others that I don't remember as new because I haven't used Windows 7 in a while and forget what it looked like. I used to think that the Metro look (I know I am not supposed to refer to it that way but it is clear about what I am talking about) was kind of brash, but have grown accustom to it. As with anything else use it for a while and you will become accustom to it and forget the old way of doing things. As Peter Adam said "feel the love". :-D

Here is a list of keyboard shortcuts[^] you may find helpful. Another helpful hint is to put your desktop tile in the upper left position then you can get to the desktop bu pressing enter. I know there a lot of other tricks that I do without thinking. It just takes getting used to the environment.

I agree that it is a step forward. Most people resist change so anything that is different is automatically bad for them. It only took me a day or two to get used to the look and feel. I must admit that I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts to avoid mouse clicks which probably made the transition a little easier. I am on Windows 8.1 now and like it even more than Windows 8. Try Windows 8.1 if you can. I know you are joking but I am not. It really is better.

Installed it last week -> I did not see the slightest change. Appart maybe from that start button which sends me to the tile screen, which I did anyway using the windows key. So I am still looking for modifications :confused:

I posted this in another thread recently, figured a copy/paste is alright; Better performance Access to the latest Dev kits for WP8, W8, DX11.2 etc. Almost all the UI is vastly superior, such as windows explorer. No Aero for performance improvements, task manager etc. More secure than 7 less intrusive windows updates less spontaneous restarts (most updates and programs install don't need a PC restart anymore) EasyMode restore PC if you broke it (while keeping all your data too) runs ISOs and VHDs natively (that's right, you don't even need to use daemon tools) Driver support is excellent, W8 supports pretty much any device you connect to it without installing native drivers (especially good for HP printers, which comes with bloated driver software, you can avoid entirely by just using the windows driver) Plenty of excellent tools that just don't exist in 7: such as Drive Pooling and local Hyper-V virtual machines! Seriously, Local Hyper-V is a godlike for virtual machines and I think its terrible that hardly anyone even knows about it!

I really like Windows 8. It has made me more productive at work, and is more intuitive to use that earlier versions of Windows, or Max OS or Android or Ios. It looks and feels like a grown-up operating system and, as a developer, features such as opening the desktop with no 'hourglass' when I run some apps and just opening full screen for others opens some doors for us in product development. The ease of use whether using keyboard/mouse or touch screen or a combination is so intuitive that our users don't even notice the transition and never have problems accidentally scrolling when they meant to swipe to close, or have issues trying to position the mouse in the corner of multiple desktops! Well done Microsoft - this is the future of the desktop and the tablet, rolled into one.
Remind us again, what exactly is the cocktail of drugs you are on?

On the second monitor the logo sends me to the start screen. Try left clicking in the lower left corner (mouse pointer off the screen) and see if that brings up the start button menu. Don't know what to say about the start menu except even though I have access to it in Windows 8.1 I never use it because I had learned to do without it in Windows 8.
