      To ask you to vote for a friend of mine that is participating in public voting event for environmental project Green Innovation Award?

      I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think that is OK, even if it is very common these days. Competitions should be won on merit, not on popularity of the contenders and their friends or on their skill at spamming random strangers. If you must try to recruit us to go voting, just tell us where to vote, not who to vote for. Just my 2¢

      What is this talk of release? I do not release software. My software escapes leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

        A bit late to ask for permission to ask, when you have asked in the question asking permission to ask. I have to ask: why?

        He did not ask. He asked if he had the permission of asking, which, I ask you, is not a behaviour that demands asking.

          Not really no as that would be asking us to collude in vote rigging. What you could do is post a link to all of the projects that are up for this award and let us decide which one, if any, we would wish to vote for. That way, if your friends project really is the best one, we might vote for it.

              Neither "Yes" or "No" is an answer to "Why?"

                    Indeed: his question was "May I ask a question?", to which the only rational reply is "You did". In his case, he asks for permission to ask, the asking of which ask that which he wishes to ask, asking the question: "why ask?"

                      I'd do that: 1. Make a post about the project and what your friend is doing exactly, and why you think this is worth supporting in your opinion. 2. Add "And to those who think this project deserves support, they can even vote for it !" Everybody needs a little push sometimes[^]. And I notice we are again discussing about how to ask and not be flamed ... :sigh:

                                        I was not surrending, I was expressing my inner swiss part of neutrality.

                                        ~RaGE();

                                        I think words like 'destiny' are a way of trying to find order where none exists. - Christian Graus Entropy isn't what it used to.

                                          That works if you are Swiss, if a Frenchman says that everyone thinks about "surrender" at first, not "neutrality".

                                          I will never again mention that Dalek Dave was the poster of the One Millionth Lounge Post, nor that it was complete drivel.
