    The Next Web[^]:

Just as CDs replaced tapes as a more efficient means of playing music, and digital files replaced CDs to do the same, HTML5 is making Flash obsolete.

See above news item about IE6 never dying.

Flash will probably be around as long as COBOL (not to insult COBOL by association)

Totally agree with this one. Will be glad to see that "black box" known as flash go...

Can't wait either. I need to do another trial run with flash disabled by default. The last time I did so (2 years ago???) flash based video players were too common to make it a tolerable experience (heavy adblock use already stomped most ads into oblivion so no real win there). As the TNW article reported, it's almost certainly still too early to uninstall flash entirely, or even relegate it to be solely installed within my WTFsite browser (IE, also hosting a java infection); but if it's rare enough to make click to play an acceptable UX, that would be a significant bump in my browser security profile.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies. -- Sarah Hoyt

When I see that I can play two sounds real time at the same time (Mixing) across multiple different devices... I'll jump up and down for joy. Until then... Flash is still the only thing that does this reliably.
