Shameless plug[^] Poor audio (you can hear the rumbling the fans on my desktop machine). Article is here[^] (have I no shame??? Nope!) But the main point is, what you all think of the concept? Marc
Nice video, congrats! Probably you could improve a little the audio quality by using audacity[^]...

Here's the mic I was using, it's only $150 now.
OK, cool. Thank you! If I end up doing more of these, I'll definitely make the investment. I'm also using an ancient version of Camtasia, might be worth re-investing in that tool as well, unless you have some recommendations for screencast software? Marc
My recommendations: RODE PodCaster microphone with the shock mount Latest version of Camtasia Change your screen resolution to 1024 x 768 and record full screen at that size

Totally, video editing and compositing and even special effects can be very meticulous work. The good news is the IT / developer mindset is perfect for it since we naturally have to pay attention to detail. In fact, there's a lot of guys that started off in IT that ended up in the film industry. It's just like starting anything new though, it gets easier with practice, especially if you're already comfy talking in front of people.

I have bad memories too. The worst 5 years of my working life. I was held hostage by need for health insurance. :(

I haven't used Camtasia in years, but it was pretty nice back then. I never liked it for editing though, just for grabbing the video. Personally, I like After Effects for editing. I know most pros would say go Premiere or Final Cut Pro and they are right, but for my needs After Effects does the job pretty well. It's basically Photoshop for video.

Just to clarify a bit... After Effects : Premiere Pro :: compiler : linker AE and PP are different tools in the video editing tool chain. Although, unlike the compiler/linker comparison, they do have some overlap and, for some scenarios, can be used interchangeably.

Oh, another quick note, Adobe does offer a 30 day trial on After Effects, so you can see if it's your cup of tea before plopping down a few hundred cool ones.

AE (like most (or all?) Adobe products) is not available for purchase as a stand-alone license anymore. You can only get it packaged in a bundle with other products for a monthly fee. Pro: lower initial outlay. Con: possibly higher long term costs. They do still have the 30-day trial though.

Didn't know that. That sucks.

Yeah, I agree. But there are many who prefer it.

Change your screen resolution to 1024 x 768 and record full screen at that sizeWell, I don't have that mic (but I do have a real mic now rather than using the one on the USB camera!) and I'll see how the next video comes out at that screen res. Thanks very much much the suggestions! Marc
