Hi, I have read this whole thread[^] in the Lounge and some questions popped in my mind. If you don't mind, I will post my questions and if you really, really don't mind, I want some honest answers. ;) Here it goes.. 0. Why do I sense that you guys are afraid of getting married? 1. What's with the wife that you don't like? 2. And you even give "survival guide" after getting married. What's that for? Just curious. :-O

It looks like no one wants to touch that subject, so I'll try. I've never been smart enough to stay away from subjects that will definitely get me in trouble! ;P Those of us of the male persuasion enjoy our freedom to do as we please. Once someone commits to a relationship, especially a marriage, they give up some of that freedom. And, having been married twice, I can attest to the fact that we do not worry about the same things as women and will never learn how to think like our partners. Having said that, it definitely depends on the person. Unfortunately many of my friends have wives more like my first wife than my current wife. The second one's a keeper! My first wife complained: He just plays with his computers all the time instead of being with me. Of course, "playing with the computers" paid the bills for all the things she had, but that didn't matter. My current wife says: He's great, he leaves me to do my stuff and he's always around the house instead of running around. My first wife said: He spends too much money on electronics toys. We could spend it on XYZ instead. My current wife says: He spends money on things that make him happy and if he's happy, so am I. (She also spends money on things that make her happy, so it works both ways.) My first wife said: He's always working and doesn't have time for family. My current wife says: Thank God he has a good profession and we can do the things we want to do. My wife and I have learned to tolerate each others idiosyncrasies. I don't think there's any one else in the world that could put up with either of us. If one finds a mate like that, it's fantastic. If not, it can be miserable. But even so, we certainly don't think alike!

Then maybe choose the woman who will understand what you want to do, I guess?

I don't know if this is something peculiar for a woman, but I also enjoy my freedom. I have a fear of committing myself to someone just because I am not ready to give up the freedom I have now. How about love? Did you just marry her because you know how to tolerate each other? Or just because you are compatible?* *Sorry for nastiness.

It is humor. If someone really thought like that, they wouldn't/shouldn't get married. All three questions you have are related. There is a different way of thinking and different priorities (in routine life). Now this leads to anticipation of certain activities* that you never thought you would do. After this, you are left with exaggeration and posting fear of marriage and wives on web which then leads to a fun thread to read. *Like I cannot think myself walking around in super markets buying groceries. I do that online. Mrs. does not like online shopping at all. I can see myself standing in long queues at markets where they open 2 out of 20 counters and people buy things in quantities as if this is the last day to shop.

It's just bar talk. You know guys get together and have a beer and then reality fades. Mostly no one would want to marry them anyway.

Now who said wives don't go out to have tea with her friends to bitch about what terrible things her husband has done? :) It works both ways. You can't joke or tell stories about someone you don't have a strong connection with for the fear of breaking it with what you say. I'm not afraid to laugh about my husband's beer belly with my mates because I know he won't get upset. And if he goes around telling his mates about my big arse, I'm prepared to laugh that off too. ;)

Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike... me...

As you have wandered into a predominately male forum you have run up against male humour, whats more male forum humour, there is a reason we have a Soap Box in can get crude sometimes. If you take the content of that thread seriously it will lead to some fundamental errors about us. We are not (generally) misogynistic cave men with more balls than brains. As to what the wife thinks of the content of the forum, you think they read this drivel    . I have been married, happily, for over 35 years to someone who cannot build a spreadsheet, needs help to format a letter. She dismisses CP as "oh your in the geek forum again" but like Walt's 2nd wife is quite content with her lifestyle. BTW you and all your gender are very welcome here, it is a better place for your inclusion. Just don't take anything but technical advice from this lot!

First of all, it's good to see you use the correct numbering system. You really have adapted to life in the lounge. However, most males will joke about the "loss of freedom" from marriage, but it's a mistake to think that we actually mean it. We joke about a lot of things that we don't mean. It's just part of that Men from Mars thing that women will never truly understand. It's also the same reason that girls who give other girls nicknames will use names like "Happy Samantha" or "Wannabe Bride" (both people I know). Blokes, of course, are more likely to choose nicknames like "Fat Baz" or other names that I really can't use on a KSS forum. A lot of the regular posters here seem to be happily married, and we genuinely do wish a long and happy marriage to others - even while we joke about it. I'm normally a great believer in equality but, in this case, this is the real difference. Women will never understand men. Ever. Don't worry about it though, because while we are fascinated and beguiled by women, we haven't got the foggiest about you either. And this is a good thing. This is why we don't pick up on subtle mood swings.

And if he goes around telling his mates about my big arse, I'm prepared to laugh that off too. ;)

Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike... me...

For most men that's bragging. ;P

The reason why I ask. Not that I didn't get the jokes or I took the thread seriously (as to what others pertain), I just ask you all because I know you're the only one who can answer those. And thanks for the response.

That's fine. Even me, there are times I can't understand some women either.

                                      0. Not afraid, that's just a joke. 1. Don't like is not really the correct wording. Let's say that love and hate are surprisingly close to one another if you're married for a longer period of time ;-). 2. Various things. See 1. but also how to keep doing the manly things we used to do before marriage. One thing women do more often then men, is trying to change the opposite sex... you are a mystery to us as we are a mystery to you... ;P

                                      V.

                                          0. If you're not afraid you're not taking it seriously. It's a big change, you're promising someone she's the only one for the rest of your life. At least I'm taking that seriously. 1. Nagging. I mean, If I say I will do something, I will. No point in reminding me every half a year. Sorry couldn't resist
